Tough to send all those fans home with a loss. 3rd largest crowd since the renovation (7,268). First time in 9 years that UT lost to the Falcons at Savage.

BGSUcks had its star players rise to the occasion. For UT, Marreon tried his best, but needed a lot more help from the 5th-year senior big man. I don't like our chances in the rematch at their place in a few weeks.

The difference, us 9 bench points from three guys (actually one guy) and one starter who can't find water if he fell out of a boat. Them 15 pts from 5 guys, solid starting 5.

Packed house with more than a few casual fans in attendance and you blow it...very disappointing.

Maybe we’ll beat em at their place and dominate conference play in February. Not holding my breath...

How did their football team beat us?

Impressions: We're pretty much a one-trick pony on offense. Swing it around until jacking a three. W Jackson seems the only shooter from mid-range? No real threat within 8 feet. Even if they do drive in, they kind of throw it at the basket like someone afraid of being blocked or pass it back out even when they have a clear run to the basket. Handling of the end of first half was disappointing.

BG had a defense, ran us to the clock on several occasions. I wouldn't say they out hustled but just have a more diverse plan both sides of the floor. Something isn't working, they have options. I don't think their horses are better than our horses.

Eh, now we wait until 1am for pono to tell us what really happened.

bg is good and played great. they have a few good go-to options but all haven't made shots quite like this for a while and tonight they did. their 56% ft shooter hits nothing but net on 6 straight to clinch the game. we played well. our shooting was just ok. they simply hit more tough/big shots than us down the stretch which has happened to this UT team at home a lot. we are solid enough to hang with just about anyone, but we don't really create turnovers so if we have a mediocre shooting night and the other team gets hot, we will lose. as east says above, BG had a few more wrinkles in the defensive gameplan. they really faceguarded marreon a lot early and made it hard for him to assert himself in the first half. then again, if the 6-8 european backup doesn't bank in consecutive 24 footers from the top of the key and the frosh doesn't swish a desperation 3 with a hand in his face at the buzzer - we go into halftime up 5, not down 4. game plays out much differently in that scenario. UT had 4 turnover. I said Toledo had four turnovers. We got a lot of lay-ups and nice short post looks. bg made us work for open 3s but we usually found them. The offense was fine.

point is rocket fans, this is a team that will have it's moments. probably a couple win streaks still to come and Marreon Jackson is on the cusp of being an all time rocket great, go buy a ticket and watch him play, but they will also disappoint with close losses, which always seem to be in front of the better home crowds. i hope TK takes a chance mixing in a little zone or encouraging the guys to get active with their hands, risk some fouls and try for turnovers. we play a very vanilla d. kent game becomes another big one. gotta get that, stay in the West mix at 4-4. MAC is very middle heavy. BG and Akron are a little better than everyone but UT, kent, ball st, cmu, niu, buffalo are all solid to pretty good. it's not the big 10 or acc. nobody is as good as buffalo was last year, but there's not many easy ones in the league this year. the difference between a 3 and 8 seed could be 1 or 2 games in the win column.

Better team won. No shame in losing a hard-fought game to a better team that made some key plays. Losing to Missouri-Kansas City was an embarrassment—this wasn’t. This is clearly the best Falcon team Huger has built. They could be the real deal.

But, I am thankful for the Lady Rockets, because if they had also lost my BG friends & co-workers would be insufferable given the change in revenue sports fates.

TK desperately pleaded for a sell out and we can’t get the win. Two big road wins and we lose at home to them. We deserve better after 10 years of this but can’t see us getting it from TK.

I take Knapke over their bigs, I take Marreon over their guards, Willie vs Plowden is a wash. Every where else they have the edge. With Edo or Bizeau we might have enough depth but those guys are gone and Marreon didn’t decide to go nuts until too late. Plus we defended poorly. I see BG as clearly superior for the first time in years.

Still think MJ guarding Frye should have been done earlier. Also need to get Maranka on the floor with
Knapke more often to create some mismatches.

That and the Rockets played poor defense on the perimeter.

While you never like to lose to your rival down the road, I thought Toledo played a very good game, i.e, 79 points and only 4 turnovers. Sometimes you just need to credit the opponent for playing a little bit better, and I think in this game, that is what happened. Sure the defense left something to be desired giving up 85 points, but BG made some tough shots including 2 three pointers that banked in off the glass with the shot clock winding down. I don't think you could have asked for more out of Marreon Jackson Luke Knapke or Willie Jackson who played about as well as BG's Big 3 of Turner, Frye and Plowden. We just needed a bit more from our role players, Littleson, Alderson and Saunders to match the play of BG's role players. With that said, realistically Toledo's goal now should be a 3rd or 4th place regular season finish in order get a bye to Cleveland and not have to play an extra game. It looks like right now, Akron and BG are playing at a different level as anyone else, but after that, I think Toledo matches up with the others in the next group of contenders, i.e. Ball State, Kent State, Central Michigan and Buffalo. Now we'll see if they can play up to a consistent level the last 11 regular season games that will earn them a 3rd or 4th place finish.

Not much of a separation talent-wise, but bg was the better team last night... Hopefully the rematch at the Stroh will garner a win for the Rockets ...
