One major area to look out for are shipping companies. I'll bet no one has thought of those workers. They won't just be shipping goods but killer viruses.

it's high for boomers and those with pre-existing conditions....

I contracted full scale pneumonia 3 yrs. ago....you don't fk around with that guy....this is a bad arse version w/o a cure/vaccine....

people move around....it's pretty simple watching this multiply to know this could take out much more than a handful....

Not Ebola like hopefully. With the Spanish Flu 100 years ago 500 Million infected 50 Million deaths something like that.

Correct. Fatality rate MUCH MUCH lower than Ebola. Spanish flu mortality was pegged at somewhere between 10-20%....so even that sounds higher than Coronovirus---but hard to tell at this point. I dont trust anything coming out of a Commie state. Just watch the HBO series "Chernobyl" to get a feel for how they handle crisis. Lying is the "go to" move because the State can never appear to have allowed anything less than perfect to happen.

Medical experts say the Coronavirus can only survive on inanimate objects for a few hours, maybe a day or two in perfect laboratory conditions.

"The time it would take to get here would be plenty of time for the virus to lose its viability," Infectious Diseases Director Kris Ehresmann says.

And according to FedEx, the fastest a package could get to Minnesota from China is about four days.

So, doing some basic math, even under the perfect conditions, the virus wouldn't be able to survive long enough to get you sick.

"If you set up the perfectly bad scenario where you ordered your favorite thing from China and the person who packaged it sneezed on the box, by the time it got to you in Minnesota the virus would not be a concern.

I'd be worried about airports first and foremost, especially ones that have international flights to China or Hong Kong. Cruise lines might be a concern too, although I don't know how many of them go into those countries.

Things could change quickly if the disease continues to spread. But in general, I don't think the phone case you've ordered from Amazon that actually is coming from China is carrying anything unusual, other than lower taxes than they should be paying.

This is bound to be nearly as horrible as SARS in the US. We could see dozens of cases and no deaths. I too am terrified.

BTW everytime I hear of the term Coronavirus, I can't help but think of the Mexican beer. I'm guessing that company is hoping this virus doesn't get stronger and more widespread.

I doubt any of you people here remember this but there used to be a product sold over the counter that was an appetite suppressant pill called Ayds (in the late 1970's and early 1980's). It quietly went away when the other AIDS became more and more of a household name.

I’m just going on media-info here, so don’t jump if my #s are wrong. I thought there were <10 confirmed SARS cases in the US, and no fatalities. *But* worldwide was a very different story.

When you live in China and are breathing smog thick enough to cut with a knife 24x7, these respiratory viruses are pretty dangerous. Here, you take Robitussin and NyQuil for a few days and let it run it's course.

3 new suspected cases in Michigan being reported this morning.

This may all end up to be no big deal but personally I’m glad I’m not scheduled to be in an airport for a few weeks

I’m not going to, I just think the media goes crazy over one of these every few years and usually it’s no big deal. Of course it could be one of those hundred year mass epidemics, but I’m not going to panic. Always good to use common sense when traveling though.

Well the viruses are because the Chinese live with chickens and pigs and the deadly viruses jump species. Seriously. If they farmed like Americans, it wouldn't be so likely to happen.

This virus has a 14 day incubation period. Unless you stop all travel from China into the US or quarantine those coming in for 14 days more cases will pop up and spread. Im for stopping travel until it is controlled.

I'm kind of surprised that hasn't happened yet. Trump has stopped travel from other countries for less IMO.

it’s instructive that this alleged emergent global superpower is frequently afflicted by the modern equivalent of the plague.

Not aware of any country that has banned travel from China.

Not calling you out SuperFlyBCat, but people always cite the Spanish flu but then neglect to mention that if that occured today, with all the medical advances/protocals, etc I don't think nearly as many people would have died. It was 100 years ago. Still bad, but not 50 million deaths bad.
I really don't know much about any of this.

lol, no worries 04-cheers

I was just pointing out the lots of people point to the Spanish flu in instances like this.

Actually things could potentially be far more dangerous today because of mass world wide travel. And I'm not talking specifically about the Spanish flu virus but any new strain of flu virus.

In the old days people had the protection of oceans and great distances to contain the mass spread of something new, now it could be on 6 continents in 48 hours.

A lot of experts now say its not a matter of if but when.

Even the Bible and Jesus Himself said there would be terrible world wide pestilences at the very end of this age.

Read on Behold Israel where it came from a laboratory in Wuhun. The laboratory was apparently studying biological warfare agents for the government.

Quote:An Israeli biological warfare expert is linking China’s deadly Wuhan virus to China’s ‘covert biological warfare’ laboratory(s); It’s believed that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is where the disease may have originated.

That would explain their response to all of this.

The Institute is 20 miles from the market where the outbreak supposedly began. I don't trust the Chinese. I think it escapes their lab and they are trying to cover up.
