For all those "It's not as bad as the Flu" people... when was the last time you saw a gov respond to the regular flu with several dozen people in hazmat suits?

When was the last time you saw a gov quarantine 400 million people for the regular flu?

When was the last time you saw a gov welding the exits of buildings shut to keep people from leaving their homes for the regular flu?

lol, it's china...what do you expect? still 100% in the 'FAR more worried about influenza a/b' camp until there is solid medical evidence to think otherwise.

Pompeo on China from yesterday. Not related to corona but trust nothing coming from that government.

In other news... So remember the detail about WuHan having the Chinese Bio Weapons labs... and everyone saying that was a conspiracy theory that it might have been an accident containment breach from the lab... welp...

Ok maybe its just another coincidence...

however... there was that infant that was infected prior to birth... and supposedly nCoV is not a blood born virus...

Also infection seems to have a higher likelihood among Asians... which is a good sign for all of us Westerners. Tweet has link to medical paper

Not really one to buy into tin foil hat theories—-but all those markers that are unique to HIV popping up on this virus DNA is suspicious as hell—-especially when the outbreak is just a few miles from a bioweapons lab.

Interesting that the cruise ship in Japan is now up to 136 cases. Looking like that ship is going to be under quarantine awhile I suspect. I dont think there have been any deaths from the ship---so thats promising.

I feel sorry for those poor folks on the ship. I'm not really sure why they feel that keeping them on a large boat that historically is a cesspool of fast-breeding viruses is a great idea. At least the ones who are newly diagnosed with the Coronavirus get off the ship and are put in an ambulance and brought to a hospital.

My kids want to go on another cruise this summer. I'm not so keen on the idea, but I do suspect prices keep coming down dramatically.

Your family would be safer and healthier if you took them to a greyhound bus station and you all licked the bathroom doorknob.

Cruise ships are fine if noone is sick and they properly disinfect everything.

If someone gets the flu or norovirus or something, it becomes a giant vomit boat.

I had little interest in ever boarding a cruise ship before, I have ZERO interest now.

Or they are wanting to keep everyone confined in small places to make more of a dent in their population. As stated above, the last thing you want to do is keep sick people on a cruise ship, unless of course, you want EVERYONE on said cruise ship to get sick.

I believe once someone is diagnosed they are removed from the ship to a hospital.

When I got out of the navy I thought the last thing I would ever want to do is go back to sea. But I’ve taken about one cruise a year since 2005 and I quite enjoy it. The communal buffets strike me as a place where stuff can spread easily, so I generally prefer the seated meals. I will probably keep cruising, because I’ve still got bucket list places I want to go.

I got removed from a ship once with what turned out to be gall bladder issues. Spent a couple of days in a hospital in Tallin, Estonia, then flew home and had my gall bladder taken out.

Speaking to about 15-20 people (grad students at Emory and Georgia Tech, mostly) currently in metro-Atlanta who are from PRC, what is most striking to me is how all them — 100% — simply take it for granted that the facts on-the-ground are “far worse” than what media is reporting. One of them became emotional and said “You must remember this: everything they (PRC Government) says is a lie. They never say anything that’s true.”

That conversation was this weekend.

I always wonder if those that live abroad talk about Tiananmen Square when they return home. My gut feeling is no even though they leaned the truth while living abroad.
