No one should threaten harm because someone else states an opinion. The ONLY collegiate sport relevant to state lottery funding is baseball where the NCAA allows "Hope scholarships" to be given to instate players and are NOT counted toward that school's total baseball scholarship numbers. If these breaks are ever allowed in MBB, WBB and/or FB, you would hear a sharp howl of protest from both Alabama P5 schools. Imagine if UGA could add a dozen or more of "Hope scholarships" to their regular 85 in FB every year. That is the competitive situation Alabama collegiate programs face in baseball.

Regarding firing a coach in midseason, a coach can be fired at any time, but a replacement hire has to wait until the season ends. A present staff member can be named "interim" HC but that is all that can be done. If UAB AD Ingram has a line on a great replacement choice, he has kept it under wraps so far. Just keep in mind that the present LSU FBHC who just received a 6 year $42 million extension contract had been fired by at least two P5 programs before getting the LSU job. It is not as easy a job as it may appear from the outside.

Dammit. Tell my kids I love them...

Wouldn't make a hill of beans of a difference in what actually happens.

I suspect that Ehsan will be given 2 more seasons at most to show improvement.

"Fans" yelling and whining and kicking their feet when they don't get their way isn't helpful to the program.

Since the Haase era, Davis actually played tough schedules. Fans showed up and we got a bubble bid out of Davis. How about that special 2014-15 season? And the best team in the history of uab basketball that 2015-2016 team.

Davis had the luxury of being in a league where you have 3 or 4 bids to the tournament. Certainly a bonus. He also had a couple of great players in AJ & Cam Moore. The league as a whole was tougher, but the OOC conference schedule wasn't that much better than today's.

Basketball for men and women have been stuck in a 1 bid league since prior to Memphis leaving the conference.

Add in the non-support of the program and it leads to a very tough situation for any coach.

What exactly has football done to break said system?

Won games both in conference and out of conference and benefited from several bowl bids for the league. Add to that bumped up average attendance.

So the empty seats will have no impact on Ehsan's tenure here? I doubt that but if true then it explains a lot. If Ehsan is kept after this season, UAB doesn't care about the program or the fans.

System broken...

Now when will Clark go back to two money games like the others played? Last time he did it we was 6-6. So we broke the system with 1 conference title, 2 west division crowns, and a 1-2 bowl record I got it now.

Yeah and our awful coach can’t even be a top team in this conference. He’s an absolute joke

And it’s definitely possible to get an at large at UAB, just not with Ehsan

Threads like this are the direct result of the 24-hours sports talk cycle. There is no basis in reality and is perpetuated by those with no real knowledge of how the business of college athletics at a school such as UAB works.

The reality of life in the Athletic Department of any SEC school is worlds away from UAB. Howls of protest from "fans" decrying our lack of advertising & promotion, insulting our sports information/media relations department and questioning the commitment to athletics because of our support of less-than-championship-calibre coaches would be ashamed if they saw just how miniscule the budget is for UAB Athletics is compared to their perceived benchmark.

It really is ALL about the money. and we don't have enough. If you would like to be part of positive change, it is going to cost you.

Sure he did, when’s the last time four teams made it from cusa? I would say it was a two bid league so Memphis got in if they slipped. Also it’s funny that those are the two players you chose (R.I.P. Cam), when Davis actually had NBA players here. The last guy who had a shot at the league from here was Chad Frazier (whom some still crap on til this day).

You lost me with the OOC schedule, Davis didn’t played 4-5 D2s like Haase ehsan. Also find it funny when you start to crap on the program you start with Davis but Ehsan who’s the worst coach I’ve seen here you say nothing but good things about.

I never saw either Bartow coach.

adding an extra money game would at worse garner one more loss. Which is still far better than anything we've experienced.

Answering your first question - certainly during the Anderson years but 2 or 3 teams made it during the Davis years (with UAB getting an at large 1 year)

In regards to Frazier, it matters not what one does on the court if you don't do things correctly off the court.

There hasn't been much change in OOC scheduling from Davis to Ehsan. Sure Davis might have had 1 or 2 or so bigger name team come in but in the overall scheme of things it is irrelevant.

Davis' years were some pretty good years on the court (mainly due to AJ) but he couldn't help but recruit players with bad grades, etc. along with the Cousins fiasco.

I actually attended more games when Davis was coach than I have since Haase & Ehsan have been coaching. I am more selective on which games I attend due to conflicts.

Not sure if you keep up with RPI's or whatever rankings they use these days but you may wish to glance at them periodically. This is what is used to determine at large bids.

RE: Change needs to happen sooner rather than later!
Fans who are not happy with direction of the program generally respond in a few ways.
1. Voice displeasure (circle, social media, write the AD, etc...)
2. Buy Tickets, but not show up.
3. Quit buying tickets
4. Quit donating to the program.
5. Lose interest in the program altogether.

There are plenty of fans doing 1-4, however, the toughest to get back are those who have fallen into category #5. Fans who complain on message boards, twitter, etc... as frustrating as it may be to read, are still interested. Sadly, we are losing more and more fans to category 5, and nothing short of a run in the NCAA tournament will regain their interest.

When/If the vacancy occurs, I think we allow the AD to make the hire without interference or pressure from the fans. The fans struck out last time and need to keep their opinions to themselves.

I was kinda straddling the fence until last night. Last night was completely unacceptable. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Ehsan will become the first UAB coach not to make the NCAA tournament.

Based on strength of schedule vs performance, sports reference says these are our best seasons:

#1 2018 - Bill Clark
#2 2014 - Bill Clark
#3 2000 - Watson Brown
#4 1999 - Watson Brown
#5 2004 - Watson Brown
#6 2001 - Watson Brown
#7 2005 - Watson Brown
#8 2019 - Bill Clark

Worst 4 seasons:

#19 2012 - Garrick McGee
#20 2007 - Neil Callaway
#21 2011 - Neil Callaway
#22 2013 - Garrick McGee

One has to only look at current news items about nearby athletic programs to see the role of money in program quality. The DC at Auburn just received a contract for over $2 million per year while the FBHC at LSU just got a 6 year extension for $42 million (matching the FBHCs at UA and AU).. UAB followers became used to coaches having virtually no FB specific facilities for most of the first 3 decades (OK, there was a renovated Bell Gym weight room for Callaway) and having penury level funding until the FB program was killed.

I have been delighted with the new FOB and new practice fields, but when I asked what we might build next, I was met with the BT equivalent of blank stares. The only facility anyone mentioned is the new stadium, but that does not belong to UAB. We will pay rent for its use just like we did at Legion Field. Has anyone asked FBHC Clark what he feels UAB needs to build next for the Blazer FB program to remain competitive with its contemporaries for recruits? Such improvements in facilities and funding for its revenue sports may be the deciding factors when UAB wants to elevate its conference affiliation.

I haven't a clue what the RPI of the Ohio Valley Conference is. Couldn't even tell you which teams are in it.

We are in Conference USA.

Explain to me how any CUSA school could get a high enough rpi to get an at large bid.
Mention the last school in CUSA to do this if you wish as well as how they got an at large bid.
