RE: Hoops Recruiting
99% chance Monty will be here next year. He needs at least one real big 6’10 and another 6’8 guy and two scoring guards that can shoot threes.

dc1, you might be right but right now now in his sophomore year he is averaging 2.1 assists per game which doesn't rank within the top 250 assists leaders in the country. He also has almost as many turnovers as assists. If he is their guy, I don't think they would have offers out to 4 point guards.

Hankerson is a poor mans Scheffers. If he commits, which I don’t believe he will, he’s your 4 yr PG.
What? Are you related to Scheffers?
Ah, no. I’m familiar with both players and know what they bring to the offense. That is all.

Stevin, Monty every year has many offers out to point guards.

It's not a bad strategy.

Maybe because he hasn't found one yet?

A very small percentage of high school point guards can play point guard in D-1 college.

No way can these "raters" keep an eye on even a thousand of the 10,000+ kids playing h.s. bball. Maybe that's why so many get 2*. If some kid gets 4* or 5*, maybe then it's time to sit up and take notice, but even then ...
On the other hand, I don't know how I/we could pre-judge them anyway. Just sayin'. First time we get a real look is when they're out there on our court. Have to trust our recruiters (shivers while typing).
Also, how much height is NIU "losing" after this season?
Just because I got to looking at it again, yes, this year they'll lose a lot (German, James, McCarty) but next year they lose a number of scholarships but what they lose in actual players isn't really that much. After the 2020-21 season, they lose Mateen, Daow, Henry-Hayes, Nathan Scott, and Chris Johnson. Henry-Hayes might be the only one anyone might actually miss, but thats totally up in the air.
As for the lower classmen, that's where the semblance of a new core can be seen. They have sophomores Beane and Hankerson and freshmen Cochran, Lee, Cole and Dan Filippone who is probably going to redshirt this year, but he's still just a walk-on anyway so he is what he is. Of their lower classmen, you've got 3 guys right off the bat who either start or are in the top 7 in the rotation right now. The only thing that is missing right now is a big man and to develop the talls. Lee would be a great guy in this group if he could stay healthy and develop into a scorer. Cole could be a factor as well.
Needless to say, they have a good group of guards already under scholarship and all three of them can handle the ball and are getting valuable playing time as sophomores and freshmen. They just need to add some size and the future isn't nearly as dark as it may seem it is.
