With Cincinnati moving to semesters the co-op issue has been made quite a bit simpler as all athletes co-op in the summer semester now. No overlap with seasons and since it is an academic requirement they can still be paid for the their work (others who would like to intern at other institutions where it is not an academic requirement MUST take an unpaid position due to NCAA regulations). Up at UT we have no issue with it either...I think there are roughly 50 student athletes in Engineering at the moment include 8 football players.

I would be in favor of this. I think one transfer without penalty is pretty fair.

As much as I dislike Harbaugh and the fiasco he had with Fickell/Hudson, this was the one point he made that I agreed with and think the NCAA really needs to make happen.

1 Free Transfer. If you try to transfer a second time then you have to go through the whole mess of getting the NCAA to approve for whatever reason may be. Now, would the players/family's use it wisely. I'd guess in many cases probably not, but who knows? Not my worry.

At one time I seem to remember the NCAA did not like UC Bus Ad and Engine school players being in the Co-op programs.

I had Chemistry class with Roger and played pinball with him on occasion. Best outside shooter I have ever personally seen at UC.

Also agree he was bright. Still, he kept falling behind due to the demands of basketball, and came up for review at least once as to whether he could stay in the engineering college. They didn't try to help people stay in the major in those days. Instead, they were proud of how many people had to drop out because it was too tough. They did the old "look to the left and to the right of you. Only one of you three will graduate" thing at orientation.

I think it has been since Roger McClendon since a UC basketball or football player studied any type of engineering.

Alec Pierce and Lorenz Metz are both engineering majors.

In my freshman year we had a couple of athletes in engineering. They were gone by year 2.
