My take: EMU athletics takes a financial beating on this saga. The U needs to pony up some $ to cover these expenses in terms of the settlement costs and other cost going forward (Title IX compliance).

Interesting that one of the plaintiffs received $25,000 and is on the tennis roster in this first season back.

What a non sequitur. Two unrelated thoughts.

May as well talk about global warming and EMU FB.

Looks like Wetherbee really screwed this up since EMU reinstated tennis. I’m not impressed with Wetherbee. Miscalculating the removal of sports, crying during his interview and the final straw occurred when he extended Murphy’s contract. I don’t see a vision for EMU athletics with his leadership.

I haven't said much publicly (other than Melba toast comments).

As I understand it, the division to drop sports and restore some 'balance' to the budget was dropped in the AD's lap and told to do it and then let us know.

I can't believe that the entire board of regents or the athletic committee wasn't involved at every stage.

The decision belongs in Wetherbee's lap, the athletic committee of the BOR, the BOR, the U. president, CFO, etc.

So far it looks like the AD is taking the blame for a decision which belongs to all parties.

Such a sad, pathetic lie: "...while softball cost $870,000 for as many as 20 athletes."
--there is no roster limit of 20 in softball

Both sports have a 12 scholarships and both can award partial rides. The total number is all about recruiting walk-ons.

But, hey. We got a luxurious new scoreboard (and only five home games to use it).

Once again, the scoreboard, SAPC, RecIM, and other buildings are part of a bond issue, as I understand it.

If that is the case, such funds can not be used for women's sports, snow removal services, toilet paper, etc.

Bond monies are restricted funds can be only be used for purposes in the bond issue (the legal papers which describe what the funds are going to be used, re-paid, etc.).

For example, a state bond issue for roads can be for roads and those funds can only be used for roads, not education, parks and recreation, fire and police, etc.
