KENT STATE vs N Illnois
Hopefully the team is healthy and we can rebound from two lackluster performances. Really need Pippen and Whittington to get back on track. Sendy mentioned that the key is to getting back to playing solid defense. I am sure that means more time for Peterson and Williamson ( I hope we can overcome their offensive deficiencies).

Joel opened up the wallet and the department actually is promoting this game with free Swensons and give aways during the game.

I hope the students come out and the team can feed off the energy. Next home game is Akron U so this could go a long way towards getting a crowd moving forward. Maybe they can pack those bleachers that Joel hates.

RE: KENT STATE vs N Illnois
Northern Illinois is 9-9. Everything about them looks 9-9. If you look at their non conference schedule, it is exactly what you would expect. Lose to Iowa State, beat Coppin State. Lose to Northern Iowa, beat Western Illinois. Lose to Pitt, beat Chicago State. 5-3 at home, 4-6 on the road. There you have it....500 basketball.

I know it is taboo to place too much importance on the outcome of a conference game in mid January, but this seems like one the Flashes need to have. Tip off from the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center is set for 7:00PM, 6:00PM if you live in DeKalb.

Go Flashes!

Conference games in January are just as important as conference games in late February/early March.

Sadly, I think the Flashes are ultimately going to be kicking themselves for those two conference losses in mid-January when all is said and done.

Whittington and Pippen at less than 100-percent leads to a long look at the bench. While the lack of time/production from AC points to either a big doghouse or poor scouting/evaluation, or both. Beck has proven serviceable, but frankly it shouldn't take much for Bennett/Bainbridge to beat him out, either, by next season.

I think any equally puzzling player is CJ Williamson.

At the outset I must say he deserves a big benefit of the doubt due to his own injury/recovery issues ... but it is also obvious - from HS up to an including now - he has been vastly overrated for years by scouts and evaluators who have projected him as some elite guard, which make his limited contributions look even smaller.

CJ is a role-playing wing with decent defensive skills and sporadic offense. When Kent's Top 5 are hitting on all cylinders, his contributions are solid. But he is not a guy who can deliver three straight games of 10/5, particularly in MAC play when others are also struggling.

Combined with Mitch, that's two players that have to produce big in the 'intangible' areas. A team certainly can't win big without those kind of guys, but a team is also exposed when it has to realy too much upon them.

CJ has value ... but he is not nearly as valuable as projected to be.

Santiago shows promise, but it will probably be this time next season before he either looks like a PG of the future or a career backup.

Overall, just not a stellar group. The good thing is, at least 10 of 12 MAC team benches look just like them.

And they are getting 9 points tonight.
If you gamble.

I think he’s done fine in some pretty meaningful minutes.

For comparison, Antonio Williams averages 30 minutes a game, Gio Santiago averages 15.

Season Totals
AW 65 assists 43 turnovers
GS 46 assists 17 turnovers

If Santiago was getting the minutes Williams was, he projects out to 92 assists to 34 turnovers on the year. Basically 3:1.

my point exactly in the WMU thread. throw Santiago out there more and I feel things may move and flow better

Oh boy. Down 9 with less than four left. But hey, they played well at Ole Miss or whatever for a half a half. It’s college basketball. Oh boy.

Oh boy, indeed. Or, to quote the late Herb Score, "Oh, my." According to the box score on ESPN, the Flashes only got four more defensive rebounds than NIU got offensive rebounds. Oh, my.

Losing two on the road and then coming home and losing to an average NIU team is not a good sign. If we are not careful this season is going to completely get away from us. I was looking forward to the the Akron game a week ago. Not so much anymore.

A bunch of students came and got the free Swenson’s. They gave them away outside the MAAC. They then took the burgers and went back to their dorm and watched Duke. The student section was about 80% full but it had nothing to do with the Swenson give away.

I think it's obvious what's happening. Someone took our magic thrift store lightening struck MJ sneakers and we turned back into Bow Wow. Seen it happen before. Always sad.

That's the most in-depth analysis I have to offer.

Is it good when your 3 guards are 8-30 from field?

Can someone teach then how to pass ball to Phil every now and again

Danny legs shot. So glad we burnt him out vs ipfw Hampton Hiram concord etc...

6 game losing streak (if not longer) coming. This team is broken

Santiago and Beck each play a whopping four minutes tonight.

But sure, give Simons 32 minutes. That 1-10 performance validates that decision.
