RE: @ Charleston (Saturday - 4 PM)
Hawks are 13.5 underdogs in this game! If I were a betting man, I would take UNCW against that spread. I''m glad not to bet but I went 8 for 8 the other day just kidding around and it made me think what if I were to do that, but as a Christian man, I gave it up. I'd like to think that our Hawks are not going down there to just lay down. Yes, C of C has 2 terrific senior players and is at home but wow!

Getting to the game...well, you have to slow down their all world guard and limit everyone else from going off. Hawks are playing better ball lately, but have to be prepared for some zone believe it or not. Hawks can cause problems driving the ball and the scouting report is out now. We shall see what happens. As a fan of the program, I'm hoping that our Hawks go down there to win the game.

And, I don't think that Grant will zone them at the start, at least at first and maybe never, but it has to be in the game prep for C of C because the Hawks are spreading the floor a bit and are pretty good at driving it as they have some quick guards. If the Hawks are getting paint touches via drives, that may something they may consider. It's important for our staff to be aware and to practice zone offense whether that is a 2/3 or a 3/2. They have to prove that they can make the zone pay.

As far as our defense goes, I'm waiting for 1 freaking stop when we go zone! If you have been paying attention, every time we go zone, we seem to get burned bad by a 3 ball. I'd love for us to for once stay home on the shooter and make somebody else kill us. With that written, I'm happy with our recent play for sure. It starts and ends with ball pressure for our Hawks so I hope that continues.

Hofstra plays a lot of zone and we had really good success against them. I think we have a plan for it all with a full week of practice under our belt. I expect a close game. We may get down by 13, but I can't see us losing by that margin.

Playing a zone against COC is a huge gamble that I would have to really think about. Those guards can basically get to any spot they want on the floor and that is asking for trouble IMO. With the 30 second clock playing man can use time off the clock that a zone would not for the most part. I am not a fan of the 30 sec clock for college ball,it favors the team with better play makers and can cause some really bad looking shots. Maybe they mix it up a little and see what works best. Not sure the press will help much either but I think you have to at least press them some.

This game will probably be a lot like the NU game. Riller may go off, but we can probably keep everyone else in check. They also aren't a great team on the boards and don't do a lot of damage with their big men like in the past. I think the question was wiil THEY play a lot of zone and can we score against a zone. I think we can.

We are also doing a great job trapping and creating TO's and CofC was turned over a lot against Northeastern. I think we are going to surprise them with our intensity. I know they are being told not to overlook us, but the players still see a 1-6 record in the CAA. I also think our quickness at guard may give Riller trouble.

I could see Sam Miller being a problem for us. His ability to stretch the floor makes him a tough matchup.

Hawks up 6-5 at the first TV timeout. Hawks open up play with a back door alley oop to Okauru. Linnssen with two dumb fouls and sits. Looks like this will be a low scoring slugfest.

Apparently CAA refs allow Riller to travel too. Gonna be tough to beat that.

Can't play with both Phillips and Okauru on the bench. Gadsden isn't a PG.
