Record vs. DI: 11-8
CAA: 6-2 (2nd place)
RPI: # 108
NET: # 122

The Cougars began CAA play 5-0, but then went 1-2 in a tough stretch against W&M, Northeastern and Hofstra. They escaped with a 69-67 home win over the Pride on Saturday night to stay in 2nd place. And with the Tribe losing their first CAA game to Drexel, their hold on 1st place could be tenuous.

As usual, Charleston relies on their defense, where they are very difficult to break in halfcourt sets. And as usual, their offense begins and ends with Grant Riller, who is averaging 21.6 ppg, shooting .505 from the field and .347 from 3-point range. He also leads the team in rebounding. at 5.7 rpg. Brevin Galloway has served as a great "3 and D" player for the Cougars as well. He is 2nd on the team in scoring (11.1 ppg), is the team's best perimeter threat (.362 %) and is also averaging 1.9 steals per game.

I really don’t like this matchup for us. CofC plays a very stingy defense and our offense has really struggled this year.

Hope Coach Burke cooks up something special again.

Are smelling salts legal in the NCAA? Asking for a friend.

I actually think this will be a tight game. We've really managed to control the pace of games and our defense has to be dealt with. Also, Burke and team are quickly putting together some go to plays in our half court set to get points when it's a must. Add to that an actual full week of practice under the new management and im cautiously optimistic. CofC isnt a great rebounding team either. I'm much more concerned about a big team like the Tribe.

UNCW 64
CofC. 61

Haven't seen a Claflin post on here for a while. It's a sign of happier times when we're making Claflin jokes.

If they truly compete for 40 minutes,I don’t see why not. We have some great kids and you can see that they get along well. That means more than you would think. Our defensive effort has been better lately and a few guys have stepped up their offense due to playing with more confidence.

I love how Burke specifically addressed Mike O’s confidence. He knows he needs him to be there for us on the offensive end of the floor and he knows how to keep him engaged and going. That’s special. Small connections and details like that make the greatest coaches.

It's not just confidence. We have an actual offensive scheme with picks, back cuts, rotation and movement. Its allowing them to use their skills to their full advantage.

Which is perfect for a small, quick roster.

Much of our offense has been worked on before the coaching change, but some is new. There may be a greater sense of urgency at this point and it worked the other night. I did like what they did with Mike after Shykeim and Ty fouled out. They drove Mike at the cup after bringing the big out and he delivered. Mike was doing that earlier in the year and not finishing, but is now plus is a good FT shooter. I like what Brian was doing too wrt to driving the ball and mixing in a few open 3 balls.

Bill, offense was completely stagnant before the change. Completely different since.

Execution via accountability not strategy my man-for the most part. The strategy difference that I noted was driving Mike on Brace because Brace could not check Mike off the bounce. Coen wanted them to stay home and be sure to at least get OT. Their plan backfired.

While i agree accountability seems to be more now, the movement change is undeniable. That's a strategy shift no matter which way you slice it

We had a 4 out offense and stood at the three point line. This is not just better execution and a few new plays, it's an entirely new offense
