SDSU credentials: Men's Basketball (#7 AP; 19-0); 10 bowls in 10 years
San Diego State University's FB and BB programs over the past 10 years have been stronger than those of any other potential AAC FB & BB member.

SDSU Bowl appearances:
2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 (10-3)

SDSU NCAA tournament appearances:
2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2020 (19-0)

The only hindrance to AAC membership is geographical distance, but this wouldn't prohibit membership in FB and Men's Basketball.

SDSU FB and MBB could join the AAC by playing in the AAC West Division and placing their olympic sports and WBB in a regional conference.

In FB, they could play 6 of their 8 AAC games against Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, and Navy each year, with only 2 games per season vs. the other (current East division) teams (Cincy, Temple, UCF, USF, ECU). That would only require them to take 1.5 flights east of the Mississippi each year, and the eastern teams would only fly to San Diego once every four years.

In BB, SDSU could play 14 of their 18 AAC games vs. Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, Wichita State, and Cincy each season. They would only play Temple, UCF, USF, and ECU once, requiring only 2 coast-to-coast flights each season.

SDSU is currently an AAC Associate Member (Rowing), and has shown interest in joining as a FB member. The Aztecs were scheduled to become a football-only member of the Big East/American Conference, before they were re-admitted to the MWC in 2013.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SDSU would presumably be paid the same share that UConn would have received from the broadcasting (ESPN) agreement.

I’d love SDSU as an all sports member....... if we can find 3 more western teams to go with then, which is doubtful.

Question: Why, in your view, would any other western team need to be added?

Although expanding to 14 teams (like three of the P5's) would have some benefits, the AAC hasn't expressed any interest in expanding beyond 12 teams, and it's not clear whether ESPN would support the idea.

I'm pretty sure you can't park your Olympic sports away from your basketball teams.
