Could Jarron be an NBA point guard?

no

Starting? No. But he can have a Kilpatrick like career as an offensive-minded journeyman. Since he's younger than SK, there's hope he could maybe get 3-6 years out of the league. That's probably his peak.

he will never be a PG in the NBA even as a back up

Fun game. Great energy on both ends.

Jarron will not be an NBA PG, but I love him running this offense. Agree with others that he could cut out some of the ill-timed deep 3s.

Tre Scott was fabulous.

Keith Williams continues to create turnovers with pressure D. Hope to see more of that.

Loved seeing Harvey get some extended time.

ECU is bad. Good job putting them away early.

Admitiré cuando me equivoque. Harvey jugó decente. Movió bien sus pies en la defensa, ¡y pareció entender a dónde ir!

JC1 4-12, 7 assists helps take away a poor shooting %. JC2 3-10.
Bigs were super high %. Tre was 8-14, compared to 4-14 last game.
44.5% overall. UC won't lose many shooting 44.5%.

Brannen said in the post game that Cumberland has been moved to pg for the duration. They made some adjustments in the offense to work around some things and he's there for good. That said, hopefully we can make some shots at Temple. Never been an easy place for us, but this is one game i really hope they can ride Vogt. Temple really doesn't play a true 5 so hopefully we can get him going early.

If JC1 does not turn it over, that move to PG minutes was brilliant because he tossing out assists at a good level.

My guess is they would have liked to have done this earlier, but i'm not sure he was healthy or in good enough game shape to handle it for 30 minutes. Good opportunity for him. Hopefully some guys can start knocking some shots down for him on the road. Any pg needs that. Even JC.

Unfortunately I was at a house last night that didn't have ESPNU so I didn't get to see much but besides the obvious I see that both Mika and Harvey had 4 assists in less than 20 min. I don't know much about Brannen's NKU teams but wondering if Brannen emphasizes passing in recruiting.

I doubt JC ever plays in the NBA but he can have a nice career overseas and make some decent money.

Hey thanks, dsquare. Not catching as many post games and weekly pressers this year.
This is a definite sign that Coach is willing to be flexible. And a very good sign. Plus it’s a smart, obvious move if he wants to win more games.

RE: ECU Game Thread
Bearcats finished 28th last season in adjusted defensive efficiency. They are up to 28th again in adjusted defensive efficiency. They've been steadily climbing the last month. They're actually playing higher level defense right now then they did last season.

Everyone hated Mick's offense but the big drop this year has been on offense.
This team actually gets better shots but hasn't shot it as well from outside. Last year UC was elite on the off glass, this team is just really good. Last year UC was elite at not turning it over. This team turns it over a ton. If turnovers can come down and outside shooting improves a little this team can take off. Big ifs.

It was always overstated that Brannen was an offensive coach. He coaches both sides, but really defense has always been a priority with Brannen and Anthony Grant.

If you look at Anthony Grant's 11 years as a head coach, he's been top 25 in defensive efficiency 5 times, this is the first year he's been top 40 on offense.

I think on defense both subscribe to the theory of you can't give up 3 point shots. Brannen said in an interview the other day teams should what they shoot from 3, your goal is to limit their opportunity for 3's.

Last year we gave up a 3 point rate of 42.8 which was 301 in the country. This year its down to 35.8 which ranks 110. I would expect that number to go down as players continue to improve in their man to man and get some old zone habits out of their system.

Bolded, trusting your statistics here, but this is a significant change. In recent years it was frustrating to watch UC's defense surrender 3's while expending so much energy on quality defense overall. It seemed often we'd see an unlikely player have a career night from outside the arc and it's tough to overcome that when those same shots aren't dropping for UC's offense.

To clarify just in case everybody isn't familiar with 3 point rate, but basically last year 42.8% of the shots we allowed were from 3. We allowed opponents to shoot 35.5% from 3.

This year the rate is down to 35.8 and the percentage against is down to 31% (although a decrease was coming almost no matter what since the line was pushed back)

That’s also a product of zone in the game plans last year and a guy like Brooks standing in the paint.

And also...with the extension of the 3pt line, 3pt shooting has gone down across the NCAA this season.

That partly explains the percentage part (which frankly most stat people will tell you is fairly random anyways). However, UC ranks 110 nationally in fewest 3PA allowed this year they ranked 300th last year. That's the number that probably best correlates to how well a team defends the 3 point line.

Through 6 conference games the Bearcat defense is allowing 83.7 points per 100 possessions. Last year's Bearcat team allowed 98.5 points per 100 possessions in conference play.

What I'm saying is the defense has been great for the last month. Time for the offense to catch up
