@Northeastern
I figure I'd start this thread very early based on the crazy developments from tonight.

Northeastern was up by 16 with 10 minutes left against an 0-7 UNCW team who beat just 2 Division I teams all season. The dub came back and stunned Northeastern in overtime.

This puts Drexel in a tie for 3rd place with Hofstra.

You never want to be the opponent against a team that just suffered a humiliating and devastating defeat. This will be a huge game for both teams. Drexel needs to prove that 1) they can win on the road, and 2) that the W&M game was not a fluke and this team belongs up at the top of the conference.

RE: @Northeastern
The interim coach for UNCW has plenty of energy and that feeds the players. Both games he has coached they looked like a completely different team. Will see how long that last before it goes stale on the players. This upcoming road trip was always going to be big in terms of where we stand and whether we can win on the road. I would also say the time between dims that rage of a loss like this. Had that happened on Thursday and we turned around on Saturday against them, I would wholeheartedly agree, with nearly a week off, not sure how much that plays a part other than they will have a week of focused practice.

We have had a weird relationship against NU, we seemingly have been better up there than at home against them, so definitely an important one. The team that just played W&M is the team many of us hoped we could be with the talent we have. They have shown flashes, but havent duplicated, especially going from a killer effort at home and taking it on the road. Until we dont lay a dud on the road I and others will continue to be skeptical.

The big thing is that we are not going to sneak up on Northeastern. We are coming off a huge win and they a brutal loss. If we are going to stay in this game and have a chance to win, we're going to have to earn it. Hopefully we can stay within single digits.

0-2 is pretty much expected this week. 1-1 would be a celebration, 2-0 is nearly unthinkable. That stretch right after will determine everything for this team. @Delaware, JMU, Towson. Those 3 games basically determine where we will end up. These next two, while important, aren't that huge in the grand scheme.

what's the best way to watch these games?

i just hope we're competitive. this weekend made me realize how much i miss having a team worth watching. we have division 1 bodies now. at least 1 win seems reasonable.

The game is on NESN in New England, but not being carried in PA. As much as people whine about it, you're best shot to watch games is to sign up for FLO. It's $12.50 a month, so it would set you back $25 until the Men's and Women's CAA Tournament.

As a bonus, if you sign up for Flo - you can watch a battle of Dragons from years past, Frank Elegar vs Frantz Massanet in the EuroCup on Tuesday. MoraBanc Andorra (Frantz) vs Unicaja Baloncesto Malaga (Frank) - at 2 pm eastern time I believe.

RE: @Northeastern
Roland is going to give us fits, there is almost no doubt about it. It is amazing to me that he scored 38 at they lost. Roland appears to be the current POY with Kinight right there. Seems like mostly a 2 man race. He is scoring 23 a game all while shooting over 50% overall and 44% from 3. Impressive. I would venture Green will be the main defensive target there. Cam likely covers him some too. I would worry more about letting others beat us. Roland will get his, focus on stopping everyone else. The key to this game is all about ball security. Northeastern gets 7 steals a game. We need to take care of the ball. They are one of the shallower teams in the league. Butler should have a great game here. Coen runs a great system. I think this game is more winnable than most here, but it wont be easy. If the defense we have seen recently shows up in Boston and we continue taking care of the ball, we have a chance to steal another game. If we show up with our normal road woes and sluggishness, we are in trouble. I am very torn on this one.

DU- 66
NU- 72

Prove me wrong Dragons. Let's finally get a road win over a good team.

8 point underdogs tonight. Big line, but not surprised by it. Tonight will be an interesting game to see which dragons show up.

That is a big line considering that the Dragons seem to have figured out the importance of defensive consistency.

KYW did a little interview with Spiker as they prepare for tonight's game.

Riller has become a very good rebounder for a guard, and he's the only CAA player in ESPN's Mock Draft. So much could depend on who wins the regular season title, and the standings give an edge to Riller, Knight, and Hofstra's Desure Buie over Roland.

Before the season I would have expected to root for you to upset Northeastern, but now I'm scared of you to the point where I'm rooting for Northeastern, especially considering Hofstra won at Northeastern.

Not sure why. Hofstra is an awful matchup for Drexel, arguably the worst matchup for Drexel in the CAA.

Riller has done fine but I have him a couple steps behind Knight and Roland. Seems like he is trying too hard to get to the NBA and he is hurting his stock this season. Buie is definitely having a wonderful campaign for you guys, but I dont think he is right there either with Roland and Knight. He keeps on his tear he will be shortly, for sure.

It seems big to me as well, but our defense hasnt traveled yet. While we have looked way improved on that side of the ball, until we can show something, anything, on the road I will remain skeptical. My gut says that changes some tonight, but I fully understand where Vegas is coming from.

That line is too high.

Winning at NU isn’t as hard some of you think it will be.

NU has sucked at home this year so far. The game tonight has me concerned. If you guys played like you did Saturday that line will be accurate for Drexel, not NU.

We seem split on that line. Some think its correct and that this will be a blowout from revenge from your UNCW loss, others think this is a good spot for us to pull a victory. I said earlier that we have typically done better in Boston against you guys than we have in Philly. However our team has yet to show up on the road, so its hard to be confident in a Drexel win here. On paper this game is very different than reality, I am afraid.

In terms of matching the players, matching the point guards and forwards who don't shoot threes are easy. Beyond that, you have Juric, Green, and Okros who attempt more threes than twos, and Coburn is Hofstra's only starter who attempts more threes than twos. Because Butler gets so many rebounds, Walton has your second most with 4.3. Hofstra is more balanced with Kante at 7.3, Coburn at 5.9, and Pemberton at 5.6.

How has Riller hurt his stock? Compared to last season, he's shooting threes and free throws better, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks are up. He's shooting twos worse and committing more fouls and turnovers. If you use last season to make predictions for Riller this season with a margin of error like polls have, he'd be within the margin of error this season. If you think he's significantly worse than last season, I want to know why.

Roland leads in scoring and shoots threes much better than Riller, but Riller has way more rebounds and assists. I wonder if being by far the best forward will help Knight because nobody is by far the best guard.

Buie isn't as good as the other three, but if Hofstra wins the title I wouldn't out him winning a close vote. I wouldn't be surprised if the POY got under half of the votes.

On Flying Dutchmen Fans, I posted who the Sagarin expects to win. dan10 responded:

"Seems strange Sagarin has Drexel favored over Northeastern."

I'm copying my reply here so it's more likely dan10 reads it before the game:

"Either I typed that wrong or it changed a lot. The overall Sagarin favors Northeastern by 4.79. KenPom favors Northeastern by 5.19 plus home court, so the line is in between the Sagarin and KenPom. Seven Overtimes predicts Northeastern to win 72-67. Northeastern is worse in the Sagarin than in the NET, KenPom, and Seven Overtimes."

It's easy to find teams' records broken down into home, neutral, and away, but would it be possible and would it make sense to give teams separate ratings for home and away. Home court doesn't matter equally in each game, so if a rating wants to predict winners then it could be useful to give teams ratings for home and away. Neutral games are too small a sample size to mean much.

As far as Riller, you touched on it. Shooting 2s worse, committing more turnovers aka worse decision making as their point guard. Scout want improved decision making, not worse decision making. We all know he is still a great player
