They would be the NMSU of that conference and make the tournament year after year. If they came to the WAC they wouldn’t have that luxury. Although they would bring a name brand school back to the WAC.

Personally, I think Boise State will stay in the MWC. But in the scenario where they leave and decide to join the Big Sky, their top sports would look like this:

Football - AAC or Independence
Basketball (Men & Women) - Big Sky
Baseball - WAC

Staying in the MWC is the easy solution. The Big Sky, which is a football conference that also plays basketball, would get them basically for basketball. The WAC would get them for baseball and woman's swimming and diving. Would the Big Sky actually take them? Boise State would likely be the best team in the basketball in the Big Sky but they don't add a lot. They don't bring a 2nd bid. They won't improve their non-existent national TV package.

Would the WAC take them for baseball only? I am not sure why they would. The WAC needs a D1 school for basketball, but they really don't for baseball. BSU does not bring a 2nd bid to the WAC, either. But BSU does bring another western D1 basketball school, which the Big Sky does not really need. The Big Sky already has 11 basketball programs, all of which also play football in the conference. So, does Boise State join a western FCS conference without baseball or do they join a western Olympic sports conference with baseball?

Im with you, I don’t think they’ll ever leave the MW. It doesn’t make sense on what you wrote that they wouldn’t add a lot to the BS” when they would be the favorite in the conference. That seems like a lot to me. If they came to the WAC they wouldn’t be the favorite. They would absolutely hate the fact that NMSU would keep them from dancing every year. Either way “IF” they would leave, I could see conferences like us and the BS going after them as they bring name recognition. I just think they would go the BS route.

Boise doesn't dominate MW hoops now so why would moving into a conference they can dominate matter?

Because Going to the big dance is every teams goal. Especially for teams that don’t go often. Why would you think they want to come to the WAC and not dominate it?

I get that everyone wants to go to the Dance, but you're making this seem like they are bailing because they can't do that in the MW, which they've done in 2013 and 2015. And they have better odds at making the Dance in the MW (multi-bid conference) compared to either the WAC or BSC. I don't see how being more dominant in hoops would play into which conference they were to chose.

Recruiting wise, doesn’t it sound better saying we go Bowling and Dancing every year. Players come to NMSU for their high odds of going to the tournament. We’ve built tradition on it. Both conferences have a bunch of no names in it. But it would be worse for recruiting if they play no-name state in the WAC and missing the tournament compared to playing no-name team in the BS and making the tournament. If they came to the WAC they would fall to the level of around UVU.

Recruiting wise, hitting up the large metros in the WAC is better than the BSC. Not sure how not having to play NMSU would resonate with recruits and seems pretty weak to me.

Large metros matter when you have the top school(s) in the metro. I’m sure the Seattle (large metro) recruits are happy playing in a 1k seat arena averaging 400 fans per game and Chicago’s 10 fans. MW is definitely a better conference than these 2. So if they choose to leave I think they’ll go to one where they’ll dominate. In these little conferences if you don’t win it all you just get lost in the mix. Heck I don’t even know who’s been taking second place in the regular season the past few years in the WAC.

Pretty sure GCU. You haven't read Paul Coro bragging about getting to the WAC championship game only to get blown out every year?

I guess we'll agree to disagree on the matter. If they leave the MWC, I think they'll chose whichever conference is the best fit and not take a hard look at what they can "dominate". The large metros also means travel could be cheaper/easier which is another angle. Also with baseball the WAC is a better sports fit.

I was going to say that the BSC offers them the "opportunity" to reunite with Idaho but Boise hasn't played them in MBB since the 14-15 season so that's obviously not a big deal for them.

Don't give credit where it isn't due. I think GCU has owned third place in the regular season. UVU and Bakersfield have had second place for the last few years. Looks like CBU will climb in there this season.

Boise and GCU played a home and home series over the last two seasons. I think it went pretty well. Both teams brought fans to the game and it was a good matchup. I wonder if that was more exciting for them than Idaho state or Weber state?

Hey I’ll agree with you there, I think we’re to hard headed to flip one another. Hats off to you SD, we actually had a debate with getting dumb. You did have a lot of good points. Respect.

RE: Would Boise join the WAC?
Boise State would definitely be a good geographical fit for the WAC and competitive wise too. They wouldn’t dominate either. GCU has beat Boise State, UNM and San Diego State and the Aggies would definitely be beating Boise State. Boise would definitely be beating the rest of the WAC but I don’t think the wac is where they want to land their Olympic sports although I would be delighted! I bet Leon Rice wouldn’t be to happy about it.

Question on Travel - what do you consider a Bus trip and what is a flight? (i.e. how close does an opponent have to be to drive versus fly).

Second - are you SURE travel would be easier in the WAC for Boise?

I don't really think travel is ideal for most conferences except some like the Big West or other bus leagues in the midwest. MWC is even a lot of travel. Advantage of the WAC is you can fly into most major cities to get to places. Some may require a short bus trip from the airport.

And Big Sky has drivable destinations, depending on what you consider drivable

6 Hours?

How do most WAC teams get to Cal Baptist? If they fly, where to?

I would assume so, although they have been known to charter flights to locations that are off the beaten path.

I’m just not seeing your BSC angle here. I personally don’t see Boise getting back into a league with Idaho. They spent considerable time and resources to get away from them. It’s not unlike what UNM and UTEP do with NMSU.

GO AGGIES!!!!

Yes, from El Paso unless they charter..which usually isn't the case. They typically bus to and from GCU.

I think his angle is if you have to get into a bus to travel from the airport to the campus, what difference does a few extra hours on a bus make. At least that is how I take it, and to an extend he is correct.

I always viewed the large metro area being bigger for recruiting/university exposure than anything else. For travel the large metros ideally mean more travel options (different airlines and flight times if not chartering) which could lower costs.

And Idaho State. That would be reason number 1-100 why Boise wouldn't want the Big Sky.
