Kent State vs. Western Michigan
Hopefully the team is healthy and prepared to compete from the opening tip to the final buzzer. This is one that KSU should win.

A little off topic but I’m watching Ohio St. vs Penn St right now. It seems every time Ohio St plays our game against them looks less impressive. If we played them now we would probably beat them. They were on the verge of being number 1 in the country and decided to collapse. Conference play really sorts out the imposters.

I just watched Toledo beat Akron. I would suggest that everyone watch the replay. It was IMO, one of the best quality games by 2 teams that I have seen in a long time. Both teams shop well over 50 percent from the field and 3pt. Of course I was pulling for Toledo since we have already beaten them. I can not pull for Acorn anyway, but they are pretty good.

Whittington let's WMUs 6'8" freshman put him in foul trouble before we reach the 8 minute mark of the first half.

Why does our offense always seem to become more of a one on one mess as the MAC season progresses?

Our two starting bigs, one a 4 year the other a 5 year guy are combined 0-6 with 6 rebounds. Their freshman big has 3 pts 5 rebounds. If their freshman is going to essentially match both Whittington and Pippen we don't stand a chance. Absolutely no flow to the offense. Very hard to watch for the second straight game.

Maybe the most frustrating part of that first half... WMU isn't very good, and isn't having a great game. We're out rebounding them and they're shooting under 36%. Another game where we attempt 0 first half free throws. When a team is not getting good looks they're also not going to be forcing fouls.

I was just going to comment on the 0 FT attempts. to many fall back jumpers, not being aggressive going to the basket.

Roberts doing his best to carry the team. Gonna need more than just him though.

5 games into the Mac season and Miami and WMU are now combined 3-7... 1-7 if you take out their games against us.

RE: Kent State vs. Western Michigan
Look, I like Rob a lot, but he needs to evolve. At this point the league knows him and he needs to not be so predictable. When there's under a minute to go, and we're coming out of a timeout needing a three there is a 100% chance that our PG is going to drive down the right side and try to throw a baseline pass into the left corner to our best three point shooter who is moving into the corner. Everyone knows it. It's been the same play for years. Tonight WMU didn't tip the pass but Simons defender wasn't fooled and he had no space once he caught it. Rob please stop running that play. At this point it's so expected you could probably get a wide open look elsewhere just because they're selling out to stop it.

Here's a secret for you ... everybody does the same thing??? Actually, RS is historically pretty good at getting something out oftimeouts, overall. I remember charting KSU games in the recent past for that very thing and he was strong in that department... stronger overall than the competition.

Kent's/Senderoff woes are pretty simple, really. When his post guys produce, Kent wins more than their share. Simple. Look at the years Kent struggled and look at the post production.

Whittington is in a real funk, and Pippen looks like he's hitting the wall a bit. Very little lift or explosion recently, and likely not to get better.

Fault RS for not bringing his freshman bigs along is a valid criticism, but overall even with the often erratic guard play, the core issue is Whittington and Pippen. When they don't produce Kent has to be near perfect, even against average MAC teams.

Credit JWalker for last season is legit, but he missed a lot of games so the difference between a .500 season and 20-plus was a strong Whittington, even w/Walker. Kent went just over .500 or so with ADR and Pippen a few years ago, but they were seemingly in every game because of them.

Just saying.

In this day and age Kent one of the few teams, particularly mid-major, the rely on post play. It is what allows them to pull their share of non-con upsets over the years. So when they don't have it, they are exposed, against good teams, average teams, or bad.

Hard to watch DP & I feel bad for him. His "hops" are gone. He wants to do a lot of things, but his knee (or knees) will not allow it. Just hope he does not get discouraged & can get back to where he wants to be. Dream would be to see him play without those blasted braces.

As for PW, we don't know if he still feeling the affects of the flu. If you ever had it, you know it takes time to overcome it & get back to 100%. This is compounded by the rigors of being a D1 athlete.

GS is demonstrating that he will be a quality point guard during his tenure at KSU.

KSU is a good team. But there is a degree of fragility. There is no one "go-to guy" that has been a trademark of past teams. I have faith they will straighten things out.

So everyone runs that play defends continuing to run it? I'm not blaming that play for the loss, or blaming Sendy for the loss and I know his teams are generally good out of timeouts. I'm just pointing out that that play is very stale and we need to come up with something different. Especially for a coach that's been in this league for this long other coaches know what he likes to do.

As for your point ok post players I agree. We go as our posts go and it's been that way for awhile. Unfortunately that causes problems in today's game because it's become increasingly easy to get bigs in foul trouble just by putting a smaller guy on him, letting him catch it then fall down when he attempts to back you down. It used to be that you had to be out of control or extend your arm to get that call. Now out muscling someone in the paint is grounds for an offensive foul.

mediocre, as defined by the dictionary of the common man- having a shot to start MAC play 5-0 but losing to Miami and Western Michigan in the same week.

Start stealing signs or something boys....cause there ain’t much keeping the fans satisfied.
