RE: found this curious
I've always liked USF. They're on my list of favorite teams in NCAA.

I really liked the story of Jim Leavitt and how he basically founded the team under a tree on the USF campus. A few years later they became a ranked team and even finished 23rd in 2007, after being ranked as high as 2 in the nation.

Sucks he got fired for what didn't seem like a big deal. Striking a full padded player in the shoulder pads? I think the team shunned that player after the event. Jim ended up getting a $2M settlement from the school.

Must be cool and exciting for the program to hire a coach with such energy, focus, and dedication...nice article

In my mind this mentality a blue print for the mind set of an effective college coach...pretty intense, and creative..

You are correct that the initial Leavitt incident was minor. But he covered up and stonewalled. He met a player at midnight in a parking lot at midnight and instructed him to lie. Leavitt himself lied several times to the investigators. USF really had no choice; they had to fire him.

My daughter goes there, so my wife and I go to the games and follow the team. It doesn't feel as exciting as when NIU hired Hammock to be honest...I think you just need to take off the cherry colored glasses in favor of the cardinal ones 05-stirthepot
