Burke had a long shot game plan when he took over. Lure teams into shooting 3's instead of pounding us in the post, driving and dominating the boards...and it worked. They stopped falling for it and teams beat us at a game we really can't win in the paint and on the boards. We still have a roster that has no size, no experience and no true offensive threat the opposition has to worry about.

We finish at home with 3 games and our guys really seem to respond to the Trask crowd. I can't imagine we will go 0-3, but Delaware, Drexel and CofC all have the size to dominate us if they don't fall in love with the 3 ball. I don't believe there are a certain number of wins involved in the decision about Burke. He is working with a roster that no coach in the CAA could win with yet he's beat three top contenders in the CAA.

I still think he's earned the job.

I'm not going to give him a pass for the current roster. That's where I'll side with newtotheboard. He absolutely had an impact on recruiting. I don't think the level of talent is the problem with recruiting, just the inability to land a big man. I do think he has the connections to build a better roster. The staff as a whole made a terrible decision not going after a true big to pair with Linnsen.

Agree 100%. and while we have had some solid showings, we can't ignore the stinkers either. We were never in either game last week and the scores are not nearly indicative of how close they actually were. It's all about perspective, he's certainly better than CB, and we saw immediate improvement which gave us all hope. But we have to keep in mind where we were coming from, just about anything at all would have been an improvement. He needs to win a few games to have a legit shot. All depends on the names involved too.

He might need to win 2 of the 3 left to have a real shot at the job but even that might not do it -if Bass had guys lined up.
The players do have experience at this point so I am not buying that but the lack of size is a fact even in today's game of rapid fire three ball. The next coach will have some talent to work and I think if they get a decent big or two will go to the top of the CAA next year and anything less will be a disappointment-IMO.

I'm confused, you say in one sentence that not having more bigs isn't a factor this year(i do agree we should be able to compete), but then in the next sentence you say one or two more bigs and we go to the top of the conference next year?

I will say that we are a solid big away from competing at the top of the conference, if we can keep the rest of this roster intact. Even if it's a grad transfer that can come off the bench and give us 20 minutes. Like a Shawn O'Connell type. That would give us a lot of flexibility with Dodd being able to play primarily 4 and some 5 in a small ball lineup.

We need another ballhandler too. Otherwise we'll need Phillips to handle 35 minutes a contest next season.

Agree with this, and that is not something you should count on as you are one injury away from a disaster.

Like the week before when we weren't in either of those games?

Certainly wouldn't want that for a long period. I still maintain that we have short term solutions on this team, but I digress.
We had Shy last week and got blasted twice, what is our excuse for those games?

I wouldn't want that for a long period either. Honestly, I don't feel that we have any short term solutions outside of Shy at the PG position on this team.

You're right though, there's not excuse for getting waxed at full strength. Some (not all), goes to we have limited scoring abilities, limited ball handling, and obviously limited size. If ANY of those three factors are affected by fouls early... it puts us in a really, really bad spot. Last week, we seemed to be in foul trouble early. I'm not saying that's a reason for/against Burke... but rather in the W/L results last week.

I'm just being patient with the hiring process from here on out. A lot of us speculate constantly, which can be fun... but can also be detrimental when we start believing our rumors and creating self licking ice cream cones. That's where it gets nauseating.

We absolutely do need another ball handler, no doubt about it. Last week wasn't good, but I think it fair to take into account that we're a young team playing two solid experienced teams on the road. That's what happened. How much of that will that be held against Burke when the decision is made?... I'm glad I'm not the one making the final decision.

No doubt those are tough teams on the road, just wished we could have competed.

I think the lack of size is a factor at times now but they have experience overall as a team and that can't be argued at this point. They are young but they have basically played an entire season at this point. Whoever gets the job has talent to work with from the getgo and if they get a big or two they should be at the top of the CAA. The CAA is a shell of what it once was and I think could win it outright next year. point guards are a lot easier to recruit and find than big men and that can happen without a doubt.

I saw Burke last night at Brunswick Community College at the Hoggard vs Laney game -he walked in about 5 minutes before tip and stayed for the entire game.

Are there any potential D1 caliber players on either of those teams?

Hoggard has Brady Rankin-SG 2021,6-2 and Cam Blanks-PG,6-1 in the backcourt. Rankin can flatout shoot the ball with the best of them and is a D1 talent. Blanks is a super quick PG who can also shoot it,great defender and ball handler-maybe D1 . Laney PG is Jahi Flowers-2021 PG who is good but not quite in the same category as the Hoggard players.

How many HS games do you go to every year? Seems like you have a pretty solid handle on the local talent.

Looked at some of Rankin's videos/stats, definitely seems like a prospect who we should be in on... Jadyn Parker out of West Brunswick looks to have some potential too. Solid pickup for North Florida, a program projected to win the Atlantic Sun this season.
