Yep... He's non-corporate coaching lifer. He's had to earn everything he's gotten. Hard to not root for him to be successful

It's not that i'm rooting for him. I see these things as advantages he has as a coach at a mid major university. He's always had to make the best with limited talent and funds, so he's relied on coaching and motivation.

I get that. I really hope he keeps getting the Ws. You don't beat Bill Coen by accident... C.B. McGrath was 0-6 against him.

Good win, but Huskies aren’t the same team as last year. That was a good team.

No, they're not but they're still a good team. They went down to Charleston and got a W the game before us.

Right, and CB was 0-6 Vs. them. Not sure why anyone would try to minimize this W. We got blown out before he got fired by Elon by 20, let that sink in for a second Bill

And, we were up 7 in the 2nd half. I know because I watched the game. Not trying to minimize the win at all here but just stating a fact. I would love a win on Saturday and don’t think that it’s a big stretch either to expect to compete tightly for 40 minutes given the way our team plays now and their make up.

RE: Rob Burke
Not sure why anyone would be down playing that win at all really, especially considering we had a chance to win against Hofstra just two days before and only lost by two. Then we had essentially 1.5 days to prepare and beat a NU team that is still in the top half of the conference and had just beaten Charleston on the road.

Now, sure some of you could say NU isn't the same team they were last year blah blah blah. Oooookay. You're just going to casually forget that our conference mates were all blowing us out by 15+ points and we lost by 17 to freaking Elon, and that's their only conference win of the season.

Taking anything away from what these guys (Players AND Coaches) are doing right now is an absolute travesty and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Ok. Put it another way. McGrath had one decent win and that was against Hofstra in 2.5 years. Burke did it with an inferior roster in 5 days with 3 days practice. It was amazing win in contexf. One of the best I can remember.

RE: Rob Burke
The only things that have made this team inferior is lack of size and utilizing the abilities they have. And lack of confidence. Tolefree and Okauru have found their confidence especially. Dodd is realizing it also. For the first time we have had different guys step up at different times in a game. In the NU game Sims started out with 8 quick points. He didn't score again, but he contributed in other ways, while Shy took over scoring with his 14 points. Then, in the second half, Tolefree willed the team to come back. And, down the stretch, Okauru put the team on his shoulders to help finish the deal. And Dodd's 9 and 9 with at least two blocked shots was big. It's just two games under Burke and company, but I'm hoping it's a really good sample of things to come. All this comes back next year. Just need to add some size and I believe we could be back to something special again.

Of course you can. But for our resident ray of sunshine to hop in and make a point that this years NU team isn't as good as last year, and we were up by six on a team that ended up beating us by 18...an 0-6 team, it sure seems like you're putting away the sunshine and breaking out the clouds.

C'mon man, what gives? This is the kind of mindset that consistently torpedos success at UNCW.

"Yeah, we went to the NCAA tournament 3 times, but we only won ONE game...we need to change things up. More offense and higher scoring games is what we need!" Which then brings us a decade of failure.

"Yeah, the press was nice and all, but we couldn't get it done in back to back NCAA appearances". We need to change things up". Which leads to McGrath instead of Siddle or a pressing coach.

"Sure we ALMOST beat Hofstra. And, sure we beat NU...but it took OT. And, well, they're not as good as last year. I know we lost ELEVEN games in a row and were 0-6 in CAA play, following a last place finish last year in the CAA. And sure we lost to 0-6 Elon by 18, but we WERE up by 6. But really, we should have beat Hofstra too. THEN I may have been impressed. But really, Hofstra isn't as good as last year. either, As a matter of fact, the whole CAA is down and has been for awhile. So, even if we closed out the year with ten wins in a row, it would be against a really weak conference. We'd have probably won those anyhow because the players were already maturing and McGrath probably would have won those as well. Oh, and even if all that happens, Burke is WAY too animated for the long haul. We'd really need to find a coach with a little bit better demeanor"....07-coffee3

RE: Rob Burke
Burke mentioned "a guy in town" with loads of coaching experience that's helping him. Knowing that apparently Shaver was contacted immediately after the McGrath firing, is it him?... or does anyone have any other ideas.

I would bet it's former Campbell coach Billy Lee. Burke gave a shoutout to Brooks Lee after a game.

Billy Lee actually wrote the first book on the flex offense...used by Cohen at NU. 07-coffee3

Didn't realize he lived in Wilmington now. Makes sense. He just sounded hesitant to say the name in the press conference. Which made me think Shaver.

I highly doubt it.

I'm a huge fan of Shaver, but I highly doubt he has had any connection whatsoever to this program in any capacity.

I think maybe a family member of Tony’s lives in the area. Nothing more than that to feed that speculation.

If Shaver is indeed interested, it’s likely he hasn’t expressed it yet. But his connections to NC and the CAA still give credence to the idea of him ending up in the pool of potential next HC’s here. But I doubt anyone here knows one way or the other on that yet.

I still believe we're all on the same page. Inevitable with major change like this that there are always major opinions.
