She's behind in the polls and behind in fundraising...so she decided to sell her soul. Today's GOP. Sad.

At least they had one to sell. Dems don't. then again, they don't believe in them either. WAAAAAY Sad.

I just want to understand for future reference, if a pol launches a fundraising effort off a recent event that they are involved in, then it's a political stunt?

McSally is not a very good campaigner, and she could very well lose to Kelly. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if she does. But that has nothing to do with this little run-in with CNN. What McSally said was entirely true, appropriate, and will help shore up her support in AZ.

Is that going to be another Sinema where you realize after all of 2 days that you've just traded one moderate Republican for another?

Sinema votes with Trump a little over half the time. McSally over 95% of the time. They both ran as moderates. One kept her word, the other became a rubber stamp for the president. So yes, I would absolutely prefer a moderate Democrat to McSally. I’d also prefer a moderate Democrat to a Bernie/AOC type as well.

She’s running in a light red state that is getting lighter by the day, where Trumps favorability ratings are not that high even among the GOP voters. This kind of move “shores up” her support among those people who love Trump, who are already going to be voting in a presidential election anyway, who were already going to be voting R down ticket anyway. It will take more then these kinds of stunts to win in a state like Arizona.

If I had to guess today, Trumps probably wins Arizona, but I also think it’s very close, and there are going to be a lot of people holding their nose and voting for him reluctantly. I imagine a lot of those voters are going to go with the moderate, likable democrat over the rubber stamp for Trump. I guess she has no choice at this point but to align herself with the Trump machine, but I don’t like her chances.

She may be correct, but there was nothing wrong with his question. It was odd unless they have prior history

Yes, AZ is a light Red state trending Blue. Yes, McSally has a track record of being unable to run higher than the GOP baseline. And yes, what she said to the CNN guy was true, appropriate, and will help shore up her support in the campaign. I don’t see any contradiction between these points.

Among the majority of voters who don’t pay close attention to politics, this story is just one minuscule blip in the media universe and will be forgotten long before the voting starts 9 months from now. Among the minority of voters who do pay close attention, this will simply reinforce whatever partisan leanings they had before: pro-Trump/GOP people approve of what she said; anti-Trump/pro-Dem people disapprove.

I’m willing to bet that McSally runs at least even with Trump. If he carries the state (which I am not convinced he will, partly for reasons you mentioned), so will she. If he loses the state, so will she.

RE: Senator Martha McSally.....
Quote:Former "Weekly Standard" founder Bill Kristol defended CNN's congressional reporter Manu Raju on Friday, with Kristol stating that "if it’s liberal to hold public officials in our liberal democracy accountable for doing their job" then he guesses "he's liberal."

The commentary from Kristol comes one day after Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), after being asked by Raju whether she wanted new evidence against President Trump to be considered as part of his impeachment trial, refused to answer the question while calling him a “liberal hack.”

Kristol, a staunch online critic of Trump going back to the early days of his candidacy, criticized McSally for taking "high fives" from conservatives over the encounter.

"McSally calling a reporter a 'liberal hack' for asking a question, and then taking high fives from today’s 'conservatives' for doing so, tempts me to say: If it’s liberal to hold public officials in our liberal democracy accountable for doing their job, then I guess I’m liberal," Kristol tweeted.

McSally, who faces a tough reelection this year, later promoted the exchange in a fundraising email and is selling T-shirts quoting her exchange with Raju that say, "You're a liberal hack, buddy,"

He forgot the hack part, because he’s that too. He traded his “conservatism” for TDS and has been defending the liberal point of view for quite some time and not just on this.

Except there are no moderates nor likable candidates for the DNC at the moment.
