Trump wants to legally bribe foreign officials.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-tried-k...25316.html

Quote:Trump said that it was “just so unfair that American companies aren’t allowed to pay bribes to get business overseas,” according to the book, “A Very Stable Genius,” by Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig.

Quote:The anecdote meshes with the president’s past views of the anti-corruption law. In a 2012 CNBC appearance, he called it a horrible rule and said that “the world is laughing at us” for enforcing it.

I'll assume his bribes come in the form of hooker's. 05-stirthepot

Lie, cheat and steal. The Republican way.

An anecdote from an anti-Trump book? Does this even qualify as a source?

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure he has had plenty of shady business deals in the past. He does not seem like the kind of guy to let something like that stand in his way. Especially if he is in a competitive situation and his competitors can pay for an advantage.

He's not wrong in that not doing so puts the US at what I think would be a major disadvantage. However, I'm pretty sure payments are made anyway.

That's the thing, all over the world bribing isn't considered corruption. It's just a part of doing business. Not saying that's right, but it is a fact that is the way it is. US business not being able to do so puts them at significant disadvantage in certain parts of the world.

Including ALL of the places Trump has buildings in America. You don't have to go oversees to buy favor. Just go to liberal run cities in the states.

We do bribes everyday in the US, the govt included. Isn't a tax incentive basically a bribe? Stuff like that. We have bribes, we just call them other names.

This. The government is actually incredibly active in this, both domestically and internationally.

It's hypocritical of the government, and ignorant of the OP

Especially as it relates to 3rd World type countries, yeah bribes are paid to get deals done, secure contracts, build MFG/Distribution facilities etc.

I'm not advocating for legalizing it, but ^ is absolutely true. When I was in grad school, we had some interesting discussions related to international business.

I agree with this. We absolutely disadvantage ourselves, but that's ok. Legalizing it elsewhere ends up pushing similar problems back here.

Germans, Russians and French don't have a Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. And they get a lot of 3rd world contracts.

They also all had high level people bribed by Saddaam Hussein to break the Iraq embargo, which helped create the situation that lead to the 2nd Gulf War.
