RE: OBJ gave real cash
so question that I thought of...

If a guy is a senior and the game is over, would this be a problem at all?

It would only be a problem for players with eligibility left, and there could be many of those.

In any event, I think what OBJ did was awesome. Good for him, LOL.

That's brought up by Burrow in the article. He said he's no longer a student-athlete, as of the end of the game, so he could say yes.

Exactly....

Only thing better would have been if this was Randy Moss giving it out and saying straight cash homie!!!!!

Its also a problem for the school even if only departing players got it.

Of course, a former LSU president is head of the NCAA, so I don't expect anything to come of this.

Agreed -- they can go to Disneyland, sign with a shoe company, quit school, sign with an agent. Heck, they could sign a contract on the field with the XFL, an Indoor League, etc.

(Of course, they could do that BEFORE the game, but NCAA would have jurisdiction still at that point).

Its a reward for being a player at that school.

Imagine if it were a tradition. Graduating seniors all get $1000 handshakes after their last bowl. That's a clear inducement.

That's totally different than getting money for signing with an agent to negotiate with you for the NFL or signing autographs for money once you are no longer eligible.

This seems like a great recruiting pitch. After you graduate you get $10k in cash. That would be a good start after college.

Whether it's beating all the best teams in the country, dogging the favored chili of his hometown Cincinnati, or publicly snitching on the team he just won a national title with...all Joe Burrow does is break people's hearts. He's a savage.

OBJ is a complete retard, and I doubt he'll ever be on an LSU sideline or even campus again

RE: OBJ gave real cash
On a more serious note, OBJ is a moron. Why would you do something like that out in the open? Especially at a time and place where every TV network that covers the sport has a camera within a few feet? Especially when you're a pretty famous public figure and someone somewhere is absolutely watching what you are doing after your alma mater just won a title?

What might be even more ridiculous is the LSU officials trying to feed everyone the line that it wasn't real money. Good grief.

Of course, I'm on record as saying that it doesn't really bother me when the players get cash under the table. I don't particularly care if OBJ gave them money or not. I'm flabbergasted with the execution though.

Also of note, it was in the news today that OBJ has an arrest warrant out for him in New Orleans on an accusation of simple battery.

Yeah, the school will probably have to disassociate from him.

I don't necessarily expect the NCAA to come down on them or anything, but they will require the school do something to save face.

I think any LSU player that still has eligibility left, if proven they took OBJ's money, could have seriously jeopardized their athletic career.

Nothing much will come, but wouldn't surprise me if 2-3 players get suspended of kicked off the team

Most of all, it's a headache I'm sure no one at LSU wants to deal with on the heels of a historic game and season

Thanks OBJ

Just saw this. Slapped a police officer on the butt in the locker room after the game. Not a female PO. This was when the police were coming down on the players for smoking cigars. Pretty dumb move.

So, a little more on OBJ for that night...

He slapped a cop on the ass...which got him the warrant I believe

Also tried to get on the band director's ladder before he was escorted out by police

Starting to sound like a scene from The Hangover

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!

https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ckham-lsu/

Seems Texas offered cash for interceptions in the 2010 championship game.

And of course this was well after the SWC days which were the most notorious of all of the pay for play athletic cheating days.

For your analogy to work, OBJ would have had to promise money to the players before the game was over.
