RE: UAB Set to Retire Aaron Johnson’s Jersey
So Memphis fans shouldn’t compare Penny’s tenure to Tubby’s or Cal’s.

Haase won a conference tournament once in four years. But Davis was close to winning the NIT tournament one year.

And Memphis in cusa 2.0, Gonzaga currently should wrap it up they can’t or couldn’t compete with their non P5 conference mates dragging them down.

Both would dominate this conference. Ehsan can’t compete in this conference so in the former cusas he should be undefeated????

Napier and Walker played for UCONN .. I wouldn’t consider UCONN a mid major in any way, shape, or form...

Davis’s teams were really good. They just ALWAYS lost at the most inopportune times.. I’d say 3 or 4 of his teams have been better than basically all of Haases and Ehsans teams.

Ehsan sucks blazerman, just accept it. Quit making excuses.

Comparing Ehsan's skills and team with Anderson's or Davis' is pretty much pointless.

Given the conference that Anderson belonged to Ehsan might have recruited a tad better and had a chance at getting 1 of the 4 slots that the conference got in the tournament.

Stop with this, you sound so dumb

Yeah Haase and Ehsan could win the Memphis invitational.

Kinda watching UConn since they did what was best for basketball to see if being Indy or whatever is worth it football wise. Not like any G5 will win a natty or make a playoff at the moment. Maybe have a G5 realignment of some sort.

Frankly, I dont care about national championships. It would be great, but only one per year. So who cares??. Wasting our time demanding that as a metric of success. Let the bammers yammer over that.

What I expect is a program that improves steadily, recruits wisely and relentlessly, finds diamonds in the rough and develops most of them over 4 to 5 years into unforgettable players and men, wins conference tournaments regularly, competes for conference championships almost every year, strikes fear into opponents due to relentless hustle and crisp execution, represents the university well, makes it the ncaa more seasons than not, and to the NIT on the off years, and advances occasionally to the Sweet Sixteen and able to make the Eight.

None of that is unprecedented at UAB. We did most of it under two different head coaches. It will put fans in seats and get a city excited. Yes, its a new era of ncaa sports, but other mid majors are still doing it. So UAB can also. But we need a coach and staff who can find and develop the players into a team to be dreaded by opponents and adored by this city.

Making excuses for regressing steadily will never get us there. Celebrating the occasional win over a team no one cares about wont get us there. Getting excited about a olayer that scores big one night and disappears for weeks wont get us there. Having olayers constantly leave the program and succeed elsewhere wont get us there.

But the right coach will get us there. Thats why they pay them so much. They are hard to find and keep.

We need a taller version of Bill Clark or a young version of Gene Bartow or the next Mike Anderson (running a system that confounds the norms).

Then UAB basketball rises above the noise again to be a national team that people get excited about. We barely have had a pulse the past 4 years, and are not even an afterthought regionally. Its time.

Might I suggest stopping with the personal attacks.

I know the mods pretty much hate Ehsan as well so there isn't anywhere else to mention it.

If y'all spent half the time supporting the program as you do bitching about it we would have more people there.

Frankly I wish I could look forward 6 years when Kennedy has come and gone as your option and told you I told you so but that will have to wait a few years.

Torrey Ward was the ideal player and future coach for UAB. Kennedy certainly is not.

This.

Unfortunately, I don't think our AD really believes this assessment, or cares.

Neither Mo nor Squeaky met the requirements for jersey retirement.
Doesn't matter how any fan feels about them one way or the other.
The requirements are in place for a reason.
Having 20 jerseys retired would look quite ridiculous.

Retiring the number 1 is silly, honestly I think that’s a heavily used number still on many levels of b-ball

Probably so. Just another reason to be very selective with the jersey retirements.

I thought there may also be a 4 year requirement for the jersey retirement.

Not sure if the requirements are openly posted anywhere online.
