Thought this was some interesting news. It's not a hard announcement or anything, but John Ourand is a good source. He thinks that CBS will go ahead and trade future SEC rights to ESPN in exchange for other properties. Although he did say CBS would likely have the product for one more season.

The real value of this move if ESPN pulls it off is that it gives them enormous advantages in retaining product they want should the Big 12 suffer defections. Having total control of the SEC and ACC rights gives them a lot of angles to get what they want. And gives them that control early enough to be in unrestricted private talks to work out details.

It also will likely get the SEC their new revenue early.

That would be interesting since ESPN's rights to the Big 12 expire in 2025. ESPN could give CBS the 200 million for 3 years, and then raid the Big 12 for its top product leaving CBS a devalued package to bid for.
