Shooting Slump
Perhaps its time to sit some starters down and move in Saunders, T.J. and Maranka into the starting lineup and see what they can do next game. Another words, SHAKE IT UP COACH ! Don't know what has happen to Littleson shooting, Mareon could still be sick, understandable, he is gutting it out. Knapke, no take charge guy on the offensive end, give me Louden Love (6-8, 240), Wright State center any day of the week. Alderson is a reserve playing a starting role.

Something has to happen, otherwise I said it before they are headed to a barely 500 season or worst inside the MAC. On the other hand, look at that attendance, shameful. Season ticket holders are staying home. What is there, there is no excitement from those senior citizens, lower bowl.

RE: Shooting Slump
I love the guys energy doing the court promotions, but it's kind of hard to stand up when leads don't eclipse five points, and we cant string together good runs. It takes fast break buckets with key stops to get a crowd into it... We some how score in the 60's every game now. Most Coach K teams scored in the 80's per game.

Even on 12/21/2019 when he went 4/14 against Knapke?

In fairness to Love, it was his first game back after a injury to his elbow, check out his stats since then, he is a gamer. His only down fall is his FT shooting is atrocious.

While attendance maybe going down as well. Maybe if I can get up there, I will wear a bag over my head with the eyes, nose, and mouth cut outs. Do you think the ushers will escort me out if I sit behind the UT bench wearing the paper bag ?

RE: Shooting Slump
Saunders is a pure scorer. MJ is a slasher who can score. Littleson has gone cold. Knapke is a decent shooter, but not a center.

In fairness to Knapke his stats since then haven’t been against Knapke. And that date WAS a day in a week.

RE: Shooting Slump
As I stated previously, Toledo has 4 consistent double digit scorers (M Jackson, L Knapke, W Jackson and S Littleson) and 1 potential double digit scorer (K Saunders). They also have D Alderson who might give you a double digit scoring game on occasion. That leaves us A Smith and L Maranka that based on the first 17 games appear not ready to provide much consistent scoring off the bench. With that said, when one of our Big 4 does not score in double figures, and in the case of the recent CMU game, does not come close to it (Littleson), we are really going to struggle to win games in the well balanced MAC this season. We got spoiled last season with 6 legitimate every game double digit scorers (Knapke, Jackson, Jackson, Sanford, Navigato & Darrington) but unfortunately with the injuries and inexperience that we're dealing with this season, the results are not surprising!

How about trying Maranka and Knapke on the floor
at the same time? Move Knapke to the shooting forward.

RE: Shooting Slump
Toledo's strategy under coach k on offense is basically, limit turnovers, run your sets, get open jump shots for your jump shooters. This season the turnovers are up which makes us less efficient. the jump shots are open but most games we are missing them. against CMU we had open looks down the stretch guys just didn't knock them down. littleson has a nice shooting stroke but he has really struggled to make shots most nights. dude guards well, but that takes less courage than making the big shot. luke can score in a lot of ways but has missed too many shots-in the post, mid range, from outside. he can handle the ball but his turnovers are too high. willie has far too many misses and blocked shots around the rim for a strong guy who can get up. the biggest question about this team is if they are winners. they are not being outclassed in terms of talent, size or athleticism. they are able to run their offense, defend adequately and rebound the ball. they simply don't show up down the stretch most nights. so, there's hope in that we are capable of winning most of the games we lose. yet, we are losing most of the close games we could win. it's a frustrating team to watch.

Coach Nagy, WSU did just that when the raiders were struggling with Cleve St. last night at home. He changed up their lineup by putting in big man 6-9 backup center Basile with 6-8 Love in the lineup. That work as they increase their lead from 8 point advantage to a 16 point in the 2nd half. Basile off the bench contributed 12 pts, 10 RBs and 4 blks.
