RE: 2020 Depth Chart
Transfers
11: 7 FBS, 3 VMI (including 2 2019 transfers that are 2020 eligible), 1 Div III
+ have an Air Force Prep enrollee.

Most notable are starting WR Duke, slated to be starting OC UConn, starting safety UMass, 2 deep DT UCF, VMI WR with over 1k yds receiving/All So-Con 2018.

Offense:
-#1 Gr WR Scott Bracy (6’2”/210) (2020 Duke transfer). 2019 started (21 receptions, 270 yds, 2 TDs). Coming out of HS consensus 4 star & rated as Dukes top recruit ever, but career didn’t meet the hype.
https://n.rivals.com/news/the-highest-ra...cc-program

-#16 rSo WR Kris Thornton (5’8”/170) (2019 VMI transfer, 2020 eligible). 2018 over 1,000 yds receiving/All So-Con.

-#57 rJr OC Stanley Hubbard (6’4”/300) (2020 UConn transfer) 2018-2019 2 deep. Started last game vs Temple. Was slated to start at center 2020 for UConn.

-#85 Gr TE Noah Turner (6’3”/248). (2020 UNC transfer) 2018-2019 # 3-4? TE, appearing in 24 games, mostly special teams.

-#75 rSo Sammy Junco (6'2"/296) (2019 VMI transfer, 2020 eligible).

-#55 Fr OL Ronald Altman (6'3"/275) (2019 Air Force Prep).

Defense:
-#9 rSo Safety Jo Jo Norwood (6’0”/195) (2020 UMASS transfer). 2018 Originally committed to Tennessee. Was touted as the 2nd highest rated UMass recruit ever. 2018 played as a true Fr. 2019 after starting the 1st 4 games at safety, & 2nd on the team in tackles, quit the team. UMASS HC cited homesickness. Since only played 1st 4 games was able to count 2019 season as a redshirt.
https://247sports.com/college/massachuse...136115111/

-#97 rSo DE Abi N-Okonji (6’3”/250) (2020 Minnesota transfer). 3 star recruit out of HS in Georgia. Redshirted 2018, limited PT 2019. Former Maine HC now a Minnesota assistant. JMU DC former Maine DC. Assume that connection is how got Okonji.

-Gr DT Mason Cholewa (6’7”/305) (2020 UCF transfer) 2018 & 2019 on UCF 2 deep. Announced transfer Sept 2020 (not showing on roster yet).

-#53 rSo LB Liam Kouthan (6'1"/236) (2020 VMI transfer. Apparently 2020 eligible).

-#24 rFr Jebril Murray (5'10"/190) (2020 Navy transfer).

Special Teams:
-#43 rSo K Connor Madden (6'3"/215) (2020 Bridgewater transfer).

This is off the top of my head, probably missed a bunch. Hopefully some freshman stand out and can help (AJ Webb, CB).

To me, biggest question marks are QB, LB, DB. I'm thinking Que Reid might find his way onto the field in the Spur position he backed up, allowing us to move Wayne Davis to the Perimeter.

Kris Thornton could be key, 1000 yard receiver at VMI.
I got mostly the same. Flipped QBs, removed Amos & Atariwa, added Gillespie back to OL, added transfer Bracey at WR, Turner at TE, Cholewa at DT, noted 2020 transfers. If you included prior transfers (Davis & Hamilton 2018, and Colclough 2019) there's about 10 out of about 47 names in the below hypothetical 2 deep.

QB - Johnson, Maloney, Adams

RB - Obese, Hamilton, Palmer, VanHorse

WR - Bracey (Duke), Dean, Brown, Ravanel, Thornton (VMI), ?? (6 on 2 deep).

TE - Painter, Turner (UNC), Cheatham

OL - LT Gillespie/Bethea, LG Wilson, OC Hubbard (UConn), RG Kidwell, RT Fornadel
Glavin, Timming, Morris, ???

DE - Green, Uwku, N-Okonji (Minnesota), Colclough

DT - Greene, Cholewa (UCF), Groulx, Thurston

LB - Tucker-Dorsey, Jackson, Benezema, Ayamel

Spur - Davis, Reid

CB - McCormick, Carroll, Drew, Currence

S - Norwood (UMass), Hampton, Chukweneke, ??

K - Ratke

P - O Kelly

KR - Hamilton

PR - ????

RE: 2020 Depth Chart
I'd guess if you had a heart to heart with Harry, he would admit to not loving the coaching change. He was no longer a weapon to run last year. And no it's not because other teams were better defensing it from the prior years. Once he ran it the first time, teams prepared for it and it still worked for us prior years.

Overall I thought special teams were ordinary last year, after being a bigger plus the prior years. Amos and Harry just were not the play makers last year they were prior to the coaching change. I recall the new special teams coach came in with an impressive resume, but "I" just did not see the results on the field last year.

Does this transfer mean Jake moved down the depth chart ans wasn’t going to play much for us?

Could be a ton of reasons but i'm wondering if he was expecting to be a bigger part of the offense now that riley and polk arent there and maybe thats not the case. Supposedly the kid from Duke is impressing the coaches

Add in Wells, not sure the last time a freshman was talked about In preseason so much off the top of my head.

Bringing in a 1000 yard receiver in Kris Thornton Probably didn’t help. Ravanel, Dean, I think we will be fine at receiver, assuming we can get them the ball.

We've got 14 WR on the roster. Bracey and Thornton are transfers who will play, if not start. Then you have Dean and Ravenel who have played a lot of snaps. Below those guys you have a lot of younger talent waiting for a shot. I agree that the QB position is a much larger question mark this spring.

I hate to see Jake leave, but it is a deep position group.

Really sad to see after he worked all off season to come back. Hope he’s in good spirits around his teammates. Scrimmages are necessary in prep for the spring season but you hate to see injuries. Taurus Jones also injures but luckily he is only a Redshirt freshman.

Sucks for the kid- awful luck. Always seems like there are a couple guys each year that just can't stay healthy or avoid injury. Some people just have a build that doesn't allow for it. Basically the anti Brandon Beach.

Recently it’s been suggested that Vanhorse may be used as a wide receiver this year.

I think they’re going to line him up in various spots/formations just to get him out on the field. Too much talent and not enough carries to not be involved in the offense.

Worked out well for John Miller. In Coach I trust.

Believe we will see guys out with injury for the spring with the fall season just around the corner. In a positive spin, glad to see Jalen seemed pretty locked-in to a starting DE spot.

Bummer- was looking forward to seeing what he brought to the table. Big and physical. Started as a redshirt freshman in the SoCon. Oh well.
