RE: Memphis 15 in USA Today early 2020 poll.
Playing a close game against what many considered the 2nd best team in the big 10, did more for our program than beating Ole Miss in 2015. So many sportswriters and media types in the Midwest and Northeast had no idea of the talent on our team and were surprised by the competitiveness of that game. Regional games against SEC are compelling locally, but they don’t get us the national publicity of going into larger media markets.

Starting out #15 with a rookie head coach speaks volumes and gives us a chance...

That's great. But we have to wait until August to see what AP will do. They set the baseline, and it's never good for G5's. They will come up with a different narrative between now and then.

And they were #11 in the prior year final poll. Thanks for making my point.
So you expect us to be similar to where we are now, #17?
What are you trying hard to say, but not say on the record?

Here's the deal. G5 schools drop more between the prior final poll and the current preseason poll than P5 schools do. I have the data and have shared it multiple times. There is no argument otherwise.

I will say what I'm talking about. There will be fewer G5 schools in the preseason poll than there are now. And we will be ranked lower than #17.

You just said that the AP sets the baseline, but the AP ranked them the same as the Coaches; so right there again, what you are saying is nonsense.

Quote:And they were #11 in the prior year final poll. Thanks for making my point.

In 2018 they were 11-0 with Milton. He was out all of 2018. Milton was one of the top 3 or 5 quarterbacks in the entire NCAA. So my question is this. Are you stupidly trying to trick us or are you too stupid to see why they slipped ONLY 6 spots from post season to pre season after losing Milton?

Choose a stupid and go with it. I will accept either one.

Can't decide if you just like to argue, so you pick weird takes - like our basketball fate is tied to Dandridge. Or if you are just so dull you believe this stuff.

The CFP rankings baseline is set by the AP. No one cares about the Coaches poll.

Do you really think UCF was the only ranked team from the prior year to lose its qb?

And what about all the other years with Boise, UCF, Memphis, Houston, Cincy, Navy, etc.? What is the reason for all of their large drops from final to preseason?

It's hard to believe anyone whose eyes are open to the G5 struggles, would argue otherwise...but there you go.

You clearly can't decide on a stupid, so I will make it as simple for you as I can. Here is what YOU said.

Quote:But we have to wait until August to see what AP will do. They set the baseline, and it's never good for G5's. They will come up with a different narrative between now and then.

The implication is that the polls that are out now don't mean anything until the AP comes out. Last year when the AP came out they ranked UCF in the exact same spots as the early preseason polls.

Quote:And they were #11 in the prior year final poll. Thanks for making my point.

So again. Are you being stupid by thinking that nobody would notice that they weren't going to have Milton, or are you stupidly thinking that they were victims of P5 bias by dropping 6 spots after losing one of the top 5 quarterbacks in the NCAA?

Pick your stupid and move along.

Doorstop is claiming that they got screwed because their preseason ranking was lower. He failed to mention that they were losing Milton. He then claims that losing one of the top quarterbacks in the country isn't a big deal.

Of course a lot can change between this way too early pre-season poll and the later one. You've still got a few transfers, spring games, injuries, roster changes, etc. So much can happen between now and then that it's not surprising we won't be 15 when the season starts, but I don't expect us to drop out unless something catastrophic happens to us or 10 programs below us have some major momentum shifts that put them ahead of us.

RE: Memphis 15 in USA Today early 2020 poll.
Here's the data. Shared earlier this season, but some refuse to accept it.

Since the inception of the CFP,
comparing the movement of teams between the final AP ranking from one season,
to the preseason ranking the following season:

P5 teams move up an average of 3 spots;
G5 teams move down an average of 4 spots.

This is complete data looking at 68 different teams who were ranked between 2014-2019. It covers 884 data points. So you can talk about a quarterback being injured if you continue to choose to die on that hill, but the results are much more conclusive than 1 quarterback.

I have the data by team and by conference and am willing to share as much as anyone would like to see.
