USM baseball & football comparisons
I been thinking about the sign in the USM baseball locker room, The road to Omaha starts here. That’s national championship aspirations. I know the baseball Eagles have been to the World Series which I guess is the equivalent of NCAA football playoffs. I know the way college football is now there is no way USM football ever plays for a national championship. However it is nice to have one sport at USM that believes they can go play for a national championship and win it.

We have the same opportunity in basketball, but no one on campus cares enough to actually invest in it. In football, we just have a coach who’s incompetent. I’m sure he’s trying, he’s just completely apathetic when it comes to recruiting. His biggest competitor is La Monroe for talent. He simply doesn’t try to recruit real athletes.

The recruits he goes after is one thing (and I agree with your statement above). But what makes it even worse is once he gets the ones that he does sign, he is the worst head coach at motivating the kids that I have ever seen at Southern Miss (minus maybe the 0-12 dumb***). It seems he basically tells them not to get their feelings hurt if they get their asses kicked. Granted a good head coach is many things other than a motivator, but all sports have to be played with emotion. He has none.
