Also #3 now, and #9 not #8, but your point stands.

6 Big Ten
5 $EC
4 AAC
3 Big 12
2 PAC12
2 MWC
1 ACC
The same as the Big 12 and ACC combined, more than the PAC12 and ACC combined. INCREDIBLE.
No wonder Norvell left
Seriously though, all the AAC coaches, ADs and Aresco need to be running with this narrative at every press conference, media day, or any other time they have a microphone in their face.
They would, but they're all too busy writing their own story. These guys are more worried about their careers than creating a level playing field in NCAA. They aren't trying to put AAC schools and SEC schools on a level playing field. They're just trying to get an SEC job and enjoy the un-level playing field. #reality
Most likely true, sadly.

SMU was at #26 before their bowl game. The conference had 5 ranked teams within its grasp.

One of the best single seasons ever for LSU
But they did not kill everyone
Close games with
Texas
Florida
Alabama
Auburn
But none of the above were last second wins either
Great great season for them

I agree. I wonder if this will help any come the first poll of next season.

Well every pre-preseason poll has us in the Top 25, from USA Today that has us at 15 to Athlon that has us at 24.

1963 schedule 2019

Tulsa 5-5 S Alabama 2-10
N Texas 3-6 Navy 11-2
W TX A&M 4-4-1 LA Monroe 5-7

Louisville 3-7 Tulane 7-6
South Carolina 1-8-1 Tulsa 4-8
UT Chatt 4-6 SMU 10-3
Houston 2-8 Houston 4-8
USF 4-8
Cincy (x2) 11-3
Penn State 12-2
1963 - 3 teams with winning records, 2 teams at .500 and 5 teams below .500 with ole miss being the only ranked team. Overall record was 9 games BELOW .500
2019 - 8 teams with winning records, 6 with losing. 4 teams ranked in the final poll, 7 teams were receiving votes when we played them. Overall record 23 games ABOVE .500
I think the 2019 season was just better. Better results against better teams, not to mention all the external hype. While there were only 8 bowls in 1963, there are only 6 NY6 bowls (and 2 of those are Playoffs), so I think that is a fair comparison to say that it was more impressive to make the bowl in 2019.

Yeah but they don't really impact the AP poll. I hope/expect us to be in the top 25 at the start of next season, but are we starting around #19 or around #24?

Well, there's all that, and then there's 2019 final ranking of 17, 1963 final ranking of 14. And we COULD have accepted the bowl invite we got that year, but we rejected it in anticipation of receiving a bowl invite to the Gator bowl (I think) that never came.
