It seems strange that almost no one (and certainly not the players who claim to be outraged by the non-punishment of their peers) appears to be directing any of their criticism at the union -- which of course has a long and sordid history of defending its members' misconduct.

Same thing happened during the steroid controversy. MLB was not testing players because the union wouldn't agree to it. I have heard people say that Marvin Miller belongs in the HOF. My feeling is that when Barry Bonds gets in, then Miller belongs. Because Miller's insistence on no testing begat Bonds's steroid use.

Miller was elected into the Hall of Fame in December (along with Derek Jeter and Larry Walker who were the only ones to get in from the baseball writers vote). Miller and Ted Simmons were part of the Modern Era Committee vote in December (Jeter and Walker were announced in January). They'll all be inducted in ceremonies in July.

I had not seen that. I knew about Jeter and Walker, but I simply don't care much about the HOF. I think its importance is way overblown, so I don't pay a lot of attention. But if Miller is in, then Bonds and Clemens, at minimum, belong. And they're getting close and they've still got a year or two to go.

I think their admissions criteria are all wrong. When a guy who used to be a good player can get into the HOF by hanging around and DHing because he's to old and slow to play in the field anymore, and hitting .250 until he gets enough hits to make 3,000, then I think something is wrong.
