16 games in the books
Name GP Min PTS REB AST STL BLK TO FG% FT% 3PT%
Precious 16 27.9 15.6 10.4 0.9 1.1 2.0 2.7 53.1 55.2 42.9
Lester 11 25.5 10.8 3.5 2.3 0.4 0.2 2.1 44.4 79.5 34.0
DJ 15 26.3 10.8 4.5 1.6 0.8 1.3 1.6 54.9 66.7 40.0
Tyler 16 21.4 9.8 1.6 0.8 0.7 0.0 1.8 37.0 85.3 38.2
Alex 16 24.2 8.2 4.2 4.8 1.9 0.4 2.6 53.2 76.8 57.1
Boogie 16 22.1 6.9 2.9 1.2 1.6 0.1 1.1 29.6 62.5 31.0
Damion 16 21.0 5.5 3.8 3.5 1.2 0.4 2.8 47.0 66.7 44.4
Isaiah 14 11.0 3.8 2.9 0.1 0.2 1.0 0.9 40.4 70.0 22.2
Malcolm 10 12.4 3.2 3.2 0.0 0.9 0.7 1.2 82.4 40.0 0.0
Lance 14 10.1 2.8 2.1 0.4 0.4 0.9 0.6 39.0 75.0 6.7
Jaden 16 8.6 2.4 0.8 0.2 0.3 0.1 0.6 42.9 83.3 23.5
Total 16 77.8 42.3 14.9 8.9 6.9 17.2 46.6 67.4 33.7

Need to cut the turnovers down to around 10/game, shoot FTs and 3s a little better (which means no more 3s for Lance or Isaiah), get Boogie going, get Malcolm more minutes, and we will be good to go.

Those stats indicate winning basketball. 77 points a game and 42 rebounds are solid.

Turnovers are a problem but 10 a game?? Never gonna happen that would currently put as at 3rd in the entire NCAA and also since we play fast there are gonna be a few more than a slow it down team. Definitely need to cut our number by a lot though.

I'd be thrilled for a bunch of freshmen and sophomores who play fast to average 16 TO per game. I personally think our TO's will decrease over the rest of the season.

And yes, the rebounding is pretty impressive. Thankfully, Precious has embraced this role for us. I wasn't sure he would.

Right

Turnovers are a consequence of the style, so you could lessen them by changing the style but that would not be smart

Need to be able to play this style and cut back on them

So realistically cutting them by 5-8 per game would be a goal

That is still a LOT of extra shots and more possessions to set up the defense without compromising what you are good at

RE: 16 games in the books
The 17 turnovers per game is concerning. We need to get that number down to 13 to 14. No way we see it drop to 10 or 11.

I also agree that minutes for both Lance and IM need to be VERY limited.

I liked the starting five vs. USF (PA, Big Mal, DJJ, ALo and Les), with Harris the sixth man. Damian Baugh has been solid but inconsistent. True, with his length and frame, he looks more like a future NBA player than Lomax. But DB does not have A-Lo's feel for the game and basketball IQ. Baugh will improve but the move to the bench had to be done. Ditto for Boogie. He simply is not a starting caliber player at this point. The potential to be very good remains (just as is the case with Baugh) but more time is needed.

So that's the "main eight."

The "ninth man" needs to be Lance, as you need another "power player" in the nine-man rotation (and, if anything, to get LT ready for next season).

10th man is Hardaway.

I-Maurice will now be the 11th man. I like his attitude and effort. But his productivity has been so limited.

The challenge with this rotation is the lack of "power players" in the top eight. After Precious and MD, D.J. is the closest thing to an interior player. He MUST pound the boards and his foes. Similarly, Lester has to go down low a bit more than might be ideal if either DJ or Big Mal is out.

This is NOT an Elite Eight team. But I like the heart and hustle and two wins in the Big Dance (assuming we don't collapse and miss it) is not too farfetched. Lots of wins and excitement still should remain.

Come on you cant be serious.

Even the coach says the turnovers need to change because they are making bad decisions. Most of the turnovers are not because of playing fast...The are the result of not playing smart.

RE: 16 games in the books
What were most predicting for this point in the season? I think most were thinking we'd lose 2 of Oregon, UTK, NCSU, Wichita. And that was with Wiseman.

It hasn't always been pretty but we're about as good as anyone could have guessed WITHOUT Wiseman.

At this point in the season, and compared to preseason expectation, our Offense is worse, but D is better. I guess that's a decent tradeoff.

EDIT: for clarification

No way defense is better without Wiseman. I am not buying that.

You gotta be kidding! Better defensively without Wiseman? Guy is a monster protecting the rim and shot blocking.

Have to admit our defense is playing extremely well and making up for lots of mistakes, but that statement re Wiseman is insane....

This^ Like the pass from Precious with 42 seconds left. That's just not a smart play. Also, in the last six games we are averaging 20 turnovers with three of those games over 25.

Okay, now that I reread that, I see I said it wrong.

I meant our D is better than we thought it would be (with or without Wiseman), but our O is worse.

Coming into the season, most said we would be able to score in bunches but that teaching freshmen to play D would take some time. It's been the opposite. I really didn't mean to mix the two points about Wiseman and our D.

Didn't mean that. See explanation above.

And I'm not crazy. My momma had me tested.

Man can you imagine how good the D would be if we still had wiseman. We are already third in the country in blocks and only a few tenths from first. I’m sure wiseman would have been good for at least 2-3 a game. And third in defensive efficiency. Would be number 1 with him in both categories.

Need to cut the turnovers down to around 10/game, shoot FTs and 3s a little better (which means no more 3s for Lance or Isaiah), get Boogie going, get Malcolm more minutes, and we will be good to go.

Those stats indicate winning basketball. 77 points a game and 42 rebounds are solid.

i wish this board would auto-format posts like these into tables. ugh.

If you use spaces instead of tabs and enclose in code tags, it's a lot more readable. You have to scroll to see the bottom two lines though...

Still amazes me that Jayden has found his way into every game...

But to be honest Jayden showed me some things in the S. Florida game that leads me to believe that he could be a solid player as soon as next year on the offensive end of the floor.

He seems to get good looks for himself on the offensive end of the floor...He hasn't been making them but he has been creating them...Defensively he is going to have to get stronger because he is going end up guarding 3's or 4's because he is too slow to guard SGs.
