I like Hill a lot. Kind of an ambidextrous player who shoots w his right but does a lot of his ballhandling and attacking w his left. Listed at 6-3, probably more like 6-2, and athletic but plays under control with a pace that fits coach k's style. definitely a pg and a guy you can trust with ballhandling. Looks like the staff wants to load up on guards with the 2020 class. With Smith emerging as a reliable and versatile defender and (health willing) a lot of emerging frontcourt potential w Edu, maranka and acunzo you can start to see a roster core for the 2021-2022-2023 years w those guys saunders and this core of guard recruits (Hill is just an offer at this point).

This is Hill's first D1 offer and the pasted article snippet below from an Illinois recruiting site sheds some light (another short article talks about Hill and a fellow guard leading a turnaround of their HS team from an ugly 5-17 2018-19 season to becoming one of the better teams in their part of the state this year)

There simply are times when a player blossoms later than others. And when that blossoming occurs in a player with the physical gifts that Jamere Hill possesses, the alarms sound in the evaluation and recruiting world.

Hill is a very athletic guard with legitimate 6-3 size. He looked the part of a Division II prospect this past summer. But he’s clearly taken his game to another level this season and is now a bonafide Division I prospect.

The competition was higher, the games mattered in Pontiac and Hill shined by averaging 17 points 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds a game. He made six three-pointers (6 of 14) and was pretty automatic from the free-throw line.

While explosive, long and rangy at that size, Hill also produces in a big way –– to the tune of nearly 20 points a game and filling the stat sheet in other ways as well –– and still has a considerable amount of upside left in him.

Do we need another point guard? Starting to look like the women's team. Every other team in the MAC have at 4 or 5 BIG men. What will we have next year? 2 maybe 3.

We don't need a banger inside?

RE: Another Men's Hoops offer
well, marreon is gonna be a senior next year. rollins is a pg, but also plays wing. moss is a wing. hill looks like a true pg. moore is in the program but not much indication he will make an impact and his strengths seem to be defense and rebounding, not ball handling. gotta have a good pg who can truly play the position. i'd say the thinking is we still need a true pg. rollins might be one, but might be just as good as a guy who can do different things on the perimeter and not just be your pg. saunders is a wing not a pg. again, maranka 6-10, edu 6-10, smith 6-8 (really 6-7), acunzo 6-7 and not skinny, etherington 6-6 and strong. so, there's a core of frontcourt guys. if no one transfers out and moss signs (he committed but after the LOI period) that means 1 scholarship for Hill or another recruit or transfer. i'd imagine if they can get a good big man they take him and push the true pg recruit to 2021, but I see the rationale for trying to load up with ballhandlers and perimeter play makers in this class. we got a lot of frontcourt guys w talent. the backcourt after the 2021 graduating class - alderson, marreon, littleson- only has 1 player who has shown signs of being dynamic-saunders. we need talent out there.

High skill recruit to be sure.

It looks like UT will take 4 recruits. One sure PG in Hill and potential CG/wing in other 2 recruits. We have 3 open slots so I expect someone is not returning. I cannot envision how we cannot take a big man for 2020. With a potential yet to be added big man UT will have 4 total so someone MUST not be returning.

All 3 current recruits are top athletes and ballers!

Go Rockets!

RE: Another Men's Hoops offer
Good news, hope both the verbals, Moss and Hill, are not flipped late if they continue to impress and P5 programs make a late pitch. MAC has always been a guard driven league and, while we don't know how any of these 3 recruits will ultimately pan out, each has a nice upside.

Rollins is really long and versatile. classic basketball build and capable of running the point or playing off the ball. lots of defensive potential too. Detroit area kid which generally implies toughness

Moss is an elite athlete and excellent football player who will certainly give us a physical and toughness edge. could have all-mac talent if he continues to tighten up the skill side of his game.

hill is gonna have a chance to be the heir to marreon, but with a year to learn and adjust. late bloomer with an upside. kids like that tend to have good drive.

in terms of the 3 or 4 recruits or big man recruit question. let's look at the classes

2020: willie, luke
2021: marreon, alderson, littleson
2022: none
2023: edu, smith, saunders, maranka, moore
2024: acunzo, etherington, hill, moss, rollins

so, next year's roster will have
C: edu 6-10 and maranka 6-10
F: etherington 6-7 (more like 6-6), smith 6-8, acunzo 6-7
Wing: Saunders and alderson at 6-5, littleson at 6-3/6-4, moss at 6-3, moore at 6-3
pg: marreon 6, rollins 6-3, hill 6-3

i'd imagine the rotation is
starters: marreon, littleson, saunders, acunzo, edu
reserves: alderson, maranka, smith, rollins/hill (whoever is more ready), moss and possibly moore, etherington

that seems like enough big guys to work with, especially since we'll have good size and athelticism at the guard position. generally, coaches don't want to burn a rs on a guy and then give up on him so i doubt smith or ethington will leave. moore is last on the bench but has upside and seems to really get along well with the team and be a well liked teammate, so there's no reason to push him out, maybe he will choose another route given the numbers kinda stacking up against him for playing time. with at least 3 scholarships to give in 2021 and no bigs graduating in 2021 or 2022 there's plenty of time to intentionally recruit well on the interior. edu is a star, maranka is gonna be good, acunso has game, the only question is the foot-if he has to hang it up maybe we bring in a big next year.

If you’ve seen Maranka you know he’s got a decent frame. We’re not talking Harvey Knuckles here (Harvey Knuckles? OK, Boomer). He could easily be 225 next year.

Just a guess but since Bizeau gone they might need him if there is an injury they did the same thing with Gordon the latter part of his freshman year and he never ended up playing

That occurred to me and makes some sense. Still, hard to imagine a scenario where he’s forced to play.

yeah, and he's a high motor competitive kid so I'd expect him to take on the challenge of high level conditioning. I think he's gonna be a monster in the MAC as an upperclassman
