Hey Temple fans...ECU game questions
I think the wife and I are going to travel into the city for the ECU game. Still being new to the area, I have some questions.

1. We usually come into Philly on the PATCO line, will this get us anywhere near the arena or should I drive? Is there parking?

2. Any good restaurants in the area?

3. I’m assuming it is safe to walk around the area.

4. Anything we should check out?

5. Do tickets usually sell out?

6. Any sections we should avoid sitting in?

Thanks for any assistance.

1. We usually come into Philly on the PATCO line, will this get us anywhere near the arena or should I drive? Is there parking?

Not really. You can take Patco to 12th/13th or 15th/16th and change over to the Broad Street Line northbound to Cecil B. Moore/Temple which is right on campus next to the Liacouras Center.

There is parking, a garage, etc. but I don't recommend it.

2. Any good restaurants in the area?

Osteria is the best restaurant in the general area, but you'd have to take the BSL to Fairmount instead of Cecil B. Moore. There's plenty of others in the general area, but we don't really have good restaurants in the campus area.

3. I’m assuming it is safe to walk around the area.

Yes. You'll survive.

4. Anything we should check out?

Going to have to be more specific. On campus?

5. Do tickets usually sell out?

LOL

6. Any sections we should avoid sitting in?

Not really. I don't like sitting behind the baskets. Really anything that isn't super high up is fine.

1. We usually come into Philly on the PATCO line, will this get us anywhere near the arena or should I drive? Is there parking?

PATCO gets you into Center City Philadelphia. As JHG wrote, it's a short walk to the Broad Street Subway, and from there, it shouldn't take more than ~20 minutes, including 10 minute waiting time to get to Temple's campus. The Liacouras Center is right across the street from the station.

2. Any good restaurants in the area?

There are dozens of excellent restaurants in Center City, every kind of cuisine. Best idea is to dine there, before or after the game.

3. I’m assuming it is safe to walk around the area.

Since the Liacouras Center right across the street, it's fine. Temple's campus is pretty safe, with plenty of students walking around. The campus is the place to go if you'd like to take a stroll (east 1 block from subway station, then north 1-2-3 blocks, there are a couple of attractive pedestrian malls).

4. Anything we should check out?

The core of the Center City area (mainly the large area 0 to 5-10 blocks south of Market Street, between the two rivers) is pretty wonderful, especially if you have a general idea of where to go.

It is quite similar to sections of Manhattan that draw a large number of visitors (West through East Village and surrounding areas, Flatiron section, Gramercy area, sections of Upper East/West side).

For walking, most people prefer the area surrounding the cobblestone streets of Old/Historical Philadelphia, and the adjacent neighborhood known as "Society Hill." Equally popular is a fairly long section along the Delaware River known as "Penn's Landing."

A quick google search for recreational activities, walking areas, and dining will give you plenty of options.

5. Do tickets usually sell out?

No. You'll be able to get very good seats.

6. Any sections we should avoid sitting in?

It's very well designed facility. Behind the basket might not be great, and will be loudest.

Have a great time when you're there!

I’ve had the roast pork sandwich at DiNic’s and some of the handmade donuts. Yumm!

Paesano's is better.

If it's date night, and you want to keep it in the same relative area, I highly recommend making a reservation at Osteria.

What everybody above said. My preference for eating is in Center City area. Can include the rim of Center City. Many choices including a variety of ethnic.

Seating at the game will be the easiest problem you have. Now that we just lost to Tulane, I could see courtside in your future.

I second this. Went to ECU @ Temple 2013. Returned to the market every trip to Philly. Fun city.
