And, who’s to say that if he had come here, he would have stayed very long. You know how those “blue blood” programs just swoop in and take any coach they want when it benefits them....

He was basically on the hook until Calkins and Lapides started trashing the idea of hiring him and RC got cold feet.

Yep and instead we got Paz and then Tubby.
In hindsight, 'they' badly effed it up.

Any moderately successful program in the country could do the what if game on almost any coaching hire in any sport. Pointless.

Baptist Christianity is not the main stay of our focus. Also, we don't threaten recruits with deportation if they choose another college. #Perea.
Fortunately, Scott Drew is focused on more than merely winning games or successful seasons — he is focused on eternity. A Fox Sports article noted that after a loss in 2014, Drew told one of the team chaplains, “We may not win another game this year, and I may be a horrible coach, but if any of these guys leave without knowing Christ, that would be the real loss.”
Drew’s calling is higher than coaching. His calling is to share Christ with his own team and help develop them into great players — but also great followers of Jesus. He has worked closely with Highland Church in Waco, watched players profess faith in Christ as Savior, and witnessed their baptisms.
I agree with SnowTiger. Christians should not touch a basketball or go to games.

When both schools were recruiting Nolan Dennis, Drew put out a newspaper style pamphlet with numerous articles depicting us as criminals and thugs. He gave it to Dennis and other recruits.
He is a piece of **** There is a reason he has been stuck in Waco almost his entire coaching life.

Drew Scott would have been a great coach at Memphis. I will say, even though it has taken several years in the wilderness, we finally have the right coach now.
Right coach? Haven’t shown me **** yet.

You see what you want to see and conveniently ignore that which you don’t want to or doesn’t fit your agenda.
But we all do to an extent.

RE: NTR- How Close Were We For Scott Drew?
lol. If you base your team chemistry on submersion baptism, you are inviting trouble. First of all, there is more than one lawsuit in a messy situation like that. We are a public school. Drew would have to stop taking his team to church to be baptized in the pool after losses.
It reminds me of my catholic friend who got an athletic Schollie to BYU. The first year all his teammates were super friendly. The second year, his roommate with no warning took him downstairs to a basement where a ton of Mormon folks were gathered about. There was a ceremony and he was ‘asked’ to join up...
My friend said ‘no, my mother would die.’
From that moment on, the Mormons shunned him—- but he didn’t mind, lol, he got to hang out with some cool Samoans who also spurned Mormonism. True story.
All you need do is look at our women’s bb team for another example.

Must be a pretty interesting story how he ended up choosing to go to BYU in the first place considering how open they are about their religion. Mom must have been having panic attacks when he told her he was going to a Mormon school.

Maybe I’ll ask.
He takes too long to explain things; I generally don’t like to get him started.
