RE: Game Day Thread: Cincy at UCF
To go along with BearcatMark's comments, our conference play numbers look better for most individual players. To some degree it is a small sample size, but to some degree it is players just playing better.
The most notable numbers:
Tre Scott: Drtg for season 87.3, Drtg conference play 70.8.
Jarron Cumberland: Ortg for season 100.0, Ortg conference play 120.7.
Diarra: Ortg for season 99.1, Ortg conference play (on only 38 minutes) 125.5 (leads the team in conference play Ortg).
The Ortg and Drtg are team reliant, so we see a lot of other players numbers improving as well. For the season we have only 2 players with a sub 90 Drtg (Scott, Diarra), in conference play we have 7 players sub 90 in Drtg (all the regulars except Jaevin, MAW and Sorolla). In Ortg we actually have fewer players over 100 in conference play (Scott, Jarron, Vogt, Diarra and Keith) compared to on the season (Sorolla, MAW and Jaevin have dropped below 100 Ortg), but Jarron's big increase makes up for it.
MAW and Sorolla have taken major drops in conference play. Sorolla's conference play Ortg is only 0.1 better than McNeal's (62.8). MAW I expect to improve again once he gets adjusted to the increase level of play at conference level. He has been in foul trouble a lot as well, which makes it hard for him to get into a flow.

This team is turning the corner. Beating the teams they should beat. Wasn’t a minute in that game yesterday that I felt like we were going to lose. Had the better players and the 1st half was just sorta weird.

Agreed. Even in the 1st half I didn't expect a terrible shooting team like UCF to keep hitting jumpers at a high level and figured we'd adjust. Would be huge to get a win Thursday.

Memphis looks like an AAU all star team. Perhaps why they're not playing much defense and turning it over relentlessly today.
The Paper Tigers.

As we saw yesterday, and it's not the first time this year, officials are lazy and quite frankly call contact on a kid that big often backwards. The first call where Ucf's big kid basically head butts Vogt's elbow was laughable. I have no doubt Dawkins was coaching the kid to lean in, and it worked. When you have a bunch of young kids trying to guard a guy that big they're definitely going to be some banging. Question is how will they call it. A defender has to give a guy room, but the officials are often not calling them that way. The hook where the defender went down after wrapping his arm around Vogt's body also comes to bind. Just a bad, bad, call.
it's a prime time ESPN game. Does the American assign officials based upon TV exposure? if so i think we'll get the "best" of the lot, keeping in mind that being the "best" doesn't exclude them from being shite.

All the talent in the world wont do nearly as much with bad coaching.

after the game, those 3 refs probably will never be heard from again. There's quite a coincidence that the southern teams refs always are big homers.

Yeah, going into the South always seems to be very homerish and it might be even worse in Texas.
