Or will he continue to accept mediocrity from all of our sports programs. Other schools are striving for excellence while we continue to wallow in muck...

I gotta say, it was unusual circumstances and he had a lot of pressure to do so, in addition to not even being officially on the job. I believe under a normal setting and circumstance he wouldn't have made that hire. The program was also already a dumpster fire. Youve got the NIT team going public and essentially threatening that you hire JL. Say you turn JL AND Spoon down. Now youve alienated the most beloved historical figures in Usm basketball history and the simpleton fans that dont quite understand it all- all while youre still clearing your desk at Troy ( I love Spoon btw but hes not the answer at HC. Keep as assistant ). Knowing no matter who you hire, it will be a struggle for a minimum of 2 years and look like a disaster, regardless.

Was a tough situation. So he said, "fine, heres your guy, now can I call the moving truck yet?"

Idk, JL may pan out and we will all be estatic and it turn out to be the perfect hire. Just looking like hell right now.

But yes, the stamp comes with the football program. Id like to see a ballsey move by firing JH sooner than later. Like today. Wish could get Monken back. With all the talk of the recent Um and Msu hires (nationally and around the state) this is NO time to be sitting on your hands. Bold moves are needed right away.

The moment we get a President that cares. For now, every AD under Bennett has been a figurehead to do very little, probably because Bennett was placed at USM to make sure we do very little. There are people in Hattiesburg and on the Foundation that are perfectly content being high school level as long as we can say “To the top!”, their buddies get jobs, and they lose no semblance of power on the sinking ship that is Southern Miss athletics.

I have a growing tendency to believe all of this.

When Sadler first announced he was leaving, I said on here, “Just hire Ladner so we can get that whole thing over with.”

We’ve been hearing forever that he was the guy and there’d be this huge groundswell of support if he were hired, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, etc., etc. Either McClain bought into that or he just made the hire to shut people up once and for all about while he plots renovations to coliseum and the next hire.

As much as I’d have liked to have seen Hopson shown the door after this season, I didn’t at all expect it given the years left on his contract with the extensions.

McClain may end up doing great, he may bomb, but it’s just too early to say right now. There’s a significant time lag between decisions/planning and visible results. The majority of everything going on, good or bad, is still stuff put in motion before he got here.

How big is that ground swell of support? I've been wondering if we had a significant increase in season ticket and hardwood club memberships.

Isn't that the same kind of idiocy that got us Ellis Johnson? Who cares what a bunch of guys say that played 35 years ago? They don't come to games. Hire soneone whom is best for the program. This isn't high school. It is SUPPOSED to be big time college basketball. Sadler got us through the tough times and now it is supposed to be program building time with lots of hype and energy. Instead we have regression.

Hardwood Club membership is up 500%, but going from 5 to 25 isn’t something to brag about.
