While we were away....
Hofstra had 2 wins at UNCW and has now won 5 in a row (UD, Towson x 2 and UNCW X 2). They host Drexel next weekend

JM has added two more wins (Towson and Drexel) and has a 3rd coming Wednesday vs Elon. They have an interesting series next weekend at WM

Charleston was off for the 2nd straight week since playing us and hosts Towson next weekend

Towson lost a pair of close ones against WM at home

UD beat up on Elon both games and they are off next weekend (they were our opponent)

Other than Elon, it's tough to differentiate very much. Seems like there is not a huge difference between 1-9 from what I have seen but curious to see if you guys have a different opinion to the extent you've seen other games. I've seen everyone but UD at this point

RE: While we were away....
Right now the top teams seem to be NU, Hofstra and JMU at the moment.

Hofstra is really the only CAA team not impacted in any way by Covid and has righted the ship by playing well.

If there's one positive to missing some games is it gives NU a chance to get healthy, like Doherty and Tyson.

I would agree the top 3 seem to be you guys, Hofstra and JMU currently. Every team is vulnerable though.

RE: While we were away....
My rankings are below with two disclaimers: 1.) I didn't use records necessarily. My eyes tell me CC is better than JM but I may be biased from seeing the programs over the several years. 2.) It's apparent everyone is vulnerable and there isn't much separation. I don't know where to plug Delaware in (after Drexel was just a guess).

I hope all 10 get to JMU in March and we get to see this through

NU
Hofstra
CC
JM
Drexel
UD
WM
Towson
UNCW
Elon

I think that, for now, Hofstra and us belong in Tier One and Elon is alone in Tier Three. UNCW might belong in Three but two of their losses are against Hofstra. JMU and CoC might belong in One. We'll know more after they play Hofstra.

Unlike the other teams in our league we've already played all the higher rated teams so team records can be deceiving.

RE: While we were away....
Frankly, it is hard to know who is good. Drexel is 2-4,(2-1 against W&M and 0-3 otherwise). But, that team appears to have a lot of talent. Talent wise, it looks like the top 3 are Hofstra, you guys, and Drexel. Delaware might be pretty good if they can get healthy. JMU looks better than people thought(mostly due to better coaching), but they have also only had 1 weekend where they played 2 games and that was against you. UNCW is riddled with injuries. Had Delaware played the Sunday at W&M when they had no COVID issues, the Tribe would likely be 5-4 and that is having not played any games against Elon on UNCW. Plus, the Tribe has had 3 games wiped out(all were at home). They are 4-4 with only 2 home games so far.

I would say right now it is:

1) Northeastern
2) Hofstra

Everyone else a fair amount below the top 2. Of the other 8 teams, Drexel has the most talent. Admittedly, JMU just beat them. Sadly, there is going to be a wide disparity in games played, health, and potential form going into March(if they even get to play and complete the tourney).

TP....I think you're right about ranking the teams. It's just too early....and especially for me since I've seen all our games and most of Hofstra's but not a lot of the others. Besides, a bunch of teams have freshmen who are just now blossoming. Your Kochera is a good example of that.

Here's what I'm hoping for.....we have a post season tourney....nobody gets shut out because of Covid.....and (for NU) we don't look past anyone we play.

Drexel is second in KenPom and third in Sagarin. They have four players averaging at least 9.8 points who all shoot well. JMU has a start and nine more regulars. Hofstra's Caleb Burgess is fifth on the team with 133 points, and Hofstra's next three players have 132 combined.

RE: While we were away....
The CC-Towson game on Saturday was tremendous. Towson should have won in regulation but CC benefitted from another very shaky foul call on a 3 pointer similar to the Drexel game a few weeks ago. At the end of the 2nd OT, Towson missed a wide open 3 for the win. On Sunday, CC won easily

Drexel vs Hofstra was a very good series that ended in a split. I believe the metrics. Drexel is good and has multiple weapons

JMU has another scheduled bye vs Elon mid-week before facing Hofstra this weekend in an interesting series

I am assuming we are good to return Wed or Thurs and then play Saturday in Towson. Any of you hearing news?

RE: While we were away....
Damnit, now UNCW is canceled so we have games at Towson this weekend, open next weekend (unless UD or Drexel find themselves without a partner) and at WM Feb 27-28. We are going to enter CAA Sunday with 4 games played in 6 weeks

Should they use the week of the CAA tourney to have everyone do their makeup games at JMU instead of having the tourney itself or does that make too much money from CBSSN? Yes, I am the biased guy who is sitting at 7-1 and having already played CC, H, and JMU

Another thought. We could also play 2 non-conference games next weekend I suppose if another competitive school had an open weekend based on an opponent that needed to cancel

Well Jeff Konya has some time to figure out what to do for next weekend in that regard.

RE: While we were away....
The postponements could help you stay in first. You lead by 0.5 game over JMU, and both of you have February 20 and 21 off. If both of you play 4 games (or any equal amount), matching them would keep you ahead, and JMU hosts Hofstra this weekend. If you play at least 4 more games, losing 2 would keep you above Hofstra, and would keep you above Charleston unless they win all 6 including 2 at Hofstra. If you win both at Towson and don't play more than 2 games after that, you'll eliminate Preseason first Hofstra from contention for the 1 seed. Losing once or not losing would clinch at least the 2 seed, which means a Quarterfinal against a team that played the previous day. You should root for Hofstra to beat JMU.

As a Hofstra fan, Hofstra could play a 2-3 Semifinal at host JMU.

The average difference between each team's current position and preseason poll position is 3.8. Only one team is within 1 spot, and six teams are off by at least 4 spots. Last season the average difference between each team's seed and preseason poll position was 2.2.

Obviously, the road is easier for the one seed so that's what we're hoping for. Having a tiebreaker against a couple of teams helps.... (head to head is the first tiebreaker, right?)
Looking forward to watching your next two games. Since we split with JMU we're Pride fans this weekend.
