I read over the offered list to see what was said about increased seating capacity. No mention was made about that number. I had read in earlier posts that the number of seats will actually be fewer due to space provided for luxury box installations thereby DECREASING its overall seating capacity. What is the truth?.

UAB has never sold out a football game..

I'd rather have a 30k sell out with luxury boxes then 30k in a 45k stadium. the cameras tend to locate those empty seats.

I always thought we should have spray painted legion field seats like they do at Talladega and made it look like people were in the chairs....would have looked decent on wide angle shots....

You are talking about the stadium while I was asking about the Legacy Arena renovation.

yes, my brain is all mixed up since the stadium certificates are probably stolen/lost/cancelled...

It would be nice if the renovation included the ability to host the women’s basketball tournament along with the men’s games.

Curtains detract from the experience in my humble opinion.

That's not even necessary when the Women's Tournament can be played at Bill Harris Arena.

I was thinking that it would be more convenient if it could be held at the BJCC. I would more inclined to attend the women’s games making a short walk versus a drive from there to Bartow or Bill Harris. Especially, if the UAB women were not playing.

Or put the rims back up at the boutwell and have both in walking distance. I’ve always hated that decision to remove them. Probably would have to use portable goals anyways.

Is this new stadium really 35k seats or what?

It certainly help with the utilization of that space plus make it more convenient to attend the women’s games. The early rounds could be played there at least.

As far as the stadium, it seems that the 35k seats may be approximate versus exact number. We may need to get it built to know for sure?

Birmingham will host the NCAA Basketball Tourney again after renovations are completed. Wouldn't surprise me if B'ham gets to host a 2nd Round (remember the 1st Round are the games in Dayton) by 2022.

The reason why Birmingham isn't hosting NCAA tourney games now is because the arena is so outdated. Capacity was never an issue because there are 2nd round games being played in arenas with less seating capacity than Legacy Arena. One example is Extra Mile Arena in Boise. It seats only 13,900 but it's a more modern facility that has hosted 2nd Round games.

true. i live in a city with a metro area about half the size of the Bham metro area. arena here holds 16,000...we've hosted the NCAA tournament twice in the past 4 years
