Kent State vs Central Michigan
Never too early to talk KSU hoops

Central is Sat opponent. They have been tough on Kent recently.
Best news , they are 9-0 at home and 0-6 on the road.

Let’s hope for a decent crowd Sat. Hopefully some students start showing
up again. Classes begin Mon 1-13

RE: Kent State vs Central Michigan
Central Michigan played a typical non - conference schedule with wins over Michigan Dearborn, Youngstown State, Siena Heights, Trinity High School, Sam Houston State and a couple others. They have decent losses to Depaul (13) and Texas (11) to go along with some blowouts against Purdue and Valpo. They are a MAC basketball team to be sure!

The Chips have, however, started MAC play out with 2 home wins. So this one features two of the 4 unbeatens. CMU averages about 85 points a game and do it with some balanced scoring. Kevin McKay is the teams leading scorer, averaging 15.4 points per contest. The 6'5 senior also leads Central in rebounding (6.1) and FG%. A player that seems to have been around for decades, David DiLeo averages 13 points and five rebounds. DiLeo stands 6'8 and loves to shoot the three. I would hope that Kent State will not lose track of him for long stretches tomorrow.

CMU has two other double digit scorers in 6'2 senior Dallas "Cowboy" Morgan and 6'7 senior Rob Montgomery. This is a veteran group that can score. KSU will not return a home game with Central, so beating them at the MAC Center could go a long way as we inch closer to February. (I know, I know, we are only supposed to care about the MAC tournament....bologna!) Enjoy the ride. And burden, enjoy the win.
Kent State 80
Central Michigan 77
Roberts puts up 19.

Whittington ill, but Beck has been coming along recently and Bainbridge should get some quality experience. I don't know what is up with Castillo.

Got a little scary at the end but played well the last 2 minutes and finished the job.

Flashes and Ohio Poly alone as unbeatens in the MAC. Though Kent State through three has played a vastly tougher MAC schedule.

Caught a break tonight in that we played without Whittington on the same night Central was missing its leading scorer.

Four of the next five on the road.

Heard that Whittington has the flu and is ordered to stay away from the team. Even the locker room is being sanitized. He would have been a big help tonight.

I was impressed with CMU tonight. They are a fine team and well coached. I am so glad we do not have to go to their house. Seemed like every time they had a great play, it was coming from a senior. They will have to retool next year.

Cleveland, there was a caller on "Coast to Coast' last night that claimed an AC sighting.

But was he from east of the Rockies or west of the Rockies?

Best crowd of the year, partially due to the double header, but hopefully a positive trend going forward. This team is good and will be in the thick of MAC race and vying for #1 seed.

RE: Kent State vs Central Michigan
Always nice to pick up a conference win with a big player out. Fortunately, CMU had one out too. Hopefully Whittington isn't out too long and doesn't share his illness with anyone else. Pippen's offense was a little off but he stepped up big on the glass. Beck played a really nice game too. Gave us a glimpse of what we can hope for when he's likely to be a high minute guy next year.

I will say, we've seen a slightly concerning trend the last few years where our 4th+ bigs don't really give us anything. It's disappointing that "next man up" means playing 4 guard lineups but I suppose that's not just a Kent State problem but a MAC problem in general.

Anyways, another good game from our guards. Williams was his usual effective dynamic self. He had 23 points, might've had 30 but the game was being played with the new NCAA experimental rule where players nicknamed "Booman" are not eligible for and-ones.

It's definitely shaping up to be a battle at the top between Kent and Akron. While I can't stand Akron (or Groce's face) it's always a ton of fun when they're both good.
