Keep making excuses for poor coaching. Those of us who played at varsity level know bad coaching when we see it.

The sad thing is that you are serious and it makes you feel better to post that....

Thanks. Thought so but didn't really know.

Bad coaching?

You call a team full of freshmen overcoming the loss of their best player and still growing, able to overcome a second half deficit to find a way to win, bad coaching?

I don't care if you did play varsity, you obviously do not know a damn thing about coaching nor the game.

As for the team I can't get down on them yet when looking the current factors. The only negative for me right now is TOs. The team, including Lomax, force too many bad passes.

I haven't seen a true bank shot artist since Doom Haynes, in fact he is the best I've ever seen
I went to school with Doom, he was a truly the best ever.

I've never seen him so Haynes might be the best ever for all I know. But when people on a national level thought of the bank shot they thought of Duncan.

Old School Memphis fans associate the bank shot with Doom Haynes. Players are too good now to shoot mid range jumpers... it’s all 3’s all the time... even if you can’t make one.

Trust me, play for play, Doom Haynes was the best I've ever seen.

He could pull up on a dead stop on the fast break and bank it in never touching the rim. It was his shot

Doom could stop his forward momentum on a dime and go straight up. He made it look easy and, well, it's not.

RE: Youngest team in NCAA
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Without Wiseman, how is this team much different from the 2011 team?

2019
15 Precious
38 Boogie
52 DJ
58 LQ
106 Dandridge
115 Baugh

Lomax, Harris, Thomas, Maurice

2011
13 Barton
20 JJ
62 Black
109 Crawford
269 Antonio Barton

Spoon, Carmouche, Coleman, Garcia

The 2011 team had two top 20 recruits and you can easily argue that it had much better roster balance, given that Coleman and Black were both centers. That team struggled as this one has and you can't pin all of it on Pastner, nor can you pin a lot of it on Penny. That team lost badly a few times and only made the tournament by beating UTEP in the conference tournament.

Another thing that I have repeated many times over the years, is that the 2005 class was an anomaly, that has screwed up our expectations every season ever since then. Based on their rankings, that class performed much better than freshmen typically do. The more Dandridge shows improvement, the more the team will improve. Having a true big in the middle of the lane who is a threat with his back to the basket will be huge for us.

The idea this team is poorly coached is asinine. They play great team defense and move the ball on offense. Unfortunately, they’re young and
have a very low basketball IQ... and that won’t change until this team gains more experience.

But is still the youngest team either way. Guard play has been out biggest concern. Lomax is the only one with a decent assist to turnover ratio.

Lomax 1.84 to 1
Harris .44 to 1
Ellis 1.09 to 1
Baugh 1.08 to 1
Quinones 1.09 to 1

Refresh my memory didn't we have a player in the preseason that isn't playing for us now.

I had to google it, but yes we did. I understand how some (nascar) fans might leave out that detail.

2005 was not an anomaly. Cal gets the best out of his players 90% of the time. I don’t think this team has improved yet. It is penny’s second year so I do think he will get better, but right now he is not coaching this team.

The 2011 team did not play hard, they played poor defense, and they were not unselfish. They by and large had low basketball IQs. The 3 days in El Paso were a lot of fun. The UTEP fans were nice. But that weekend was the high point of Pastner’s tenure. We had some good spurts in the Arizona loss after that.

This team plays a lot harder, they play good defense, they are unselfish, and most seem to have pretty high basketball iq’s. Penny is a much better coach.

Pastner was playing in c-USA with all that talent and went 10-6

Misused JJ all season but JJ bailed his but out in the tourney.

The biggest difference between this team and that one is this teams focus on defense.

And I guess there are levels of struggling.
