RE: Starters and bench
This team will go as ALo goes, he is the ignition that runs the offense. Precious is the only 1 and done on the team and will get his 20/10 on most nights. We'll need someone else to step up to be a great team. Either DJ, Baugh or Les will have to play well for us to win. Tyler has been inconsistent all year with his 3pt shooting, which is the only thing that he is elite due to his size. The biggest surprise for me this season outside the Wiseman situation is how bad Boogie has seemed to struggle.

I think its time to shorten the rotation a little. We're going to be forced to go small the majority of the time unless you have Precious and Malcolm on the floor. That is going to require Malcolm to have to develop very quickly, which might be unfair to expect from him.

1. Lomax (PG)
2. Baugh (PG, SG, or SF)
3. Les (SG, or SF)
4. DJ (SF or PF)
5. Precious (PF or C)

Bench
1. Tyler (PG or SG)
2. Boogie (SG)
3. Malco (C or PF)

Lance should be used in dire situations

Ultimately though this team is missing a playmaker. Last year Penny was simply able to just tell Martin go get us a bucket and Martin would get it done. This year we don't have that guy.

Alo and Harris on floor together against good competition is recipe for disaster. Ray Charles could see that. Lester, Boogie and Baugh have the talent and need to perform at a higher level, and we may not see that until later in year or maybe even next year.

The slow starts is because we have 3 guys on the floor that are absolutely zero threat to score. Defenses literally don't have to worry about Boogie shooting a three or Baugh shooting, and well they definitely don't have to worry about Maurice shooting.

That's your recipe for disaster. It's why this team has gotten off to slow starts.

Yes you give up a little on the defensive end, but right now defense isn't an issue with this team. Offense is though.

I get what Penny's doing, but - like last year - we're a stretch 4 short.

Some of you hoops savants...When we want to run some face-ups with Precious, what about rotating LQ and Damian inside? They both have middling size, and the tenacity to mix it up.

I don't think precious can consistently beat his man off the bounce.

My thing is Precious needs to get better at handling the ball if we are going to have him face up more.

Though I like your idea.

I personally feel like Penny needs to adjust to his team instead of trying to force the 4-1 offense.

yes. Boogie is a threat as he has had a couple of good games but he has struggled terribly. I think he might do better changing it up and coming off the bench. Lomax should start definitely. I would leave Tyler off the bench as backup PG.

Start Lomax, Baugh, Lester, DJ, Precious
Tyler and Boogie coming in to spell lomax and Baugh. Lester, DJ, and Precious play heavy minutes because of size. Treat DJ as your stretch 4. Use Maurice, Malcolm, Lance to spell DJ and Precious.

I feel like our rotations are putting suboptimal combinations of players out there because we're treating Lester, Baugh, Boogie, Harris, DJ all as interchangeable wing players.

I like Boogie, but right now he is not a threat to score.

The issue with Baugh and Lomax on the floor is neither are a legit threat to score. Lomax is more of threat than he was last year, but still if I'm the other team I'm super concerned about him being a scoring threat.

Though I also get the issue of playing Tyler and Lomax together as well, but when we made that last push last night the 5 on the floor were Tyler, Lomax, Lester, DJ, Precious. I know Dandridge came in for a bit there at the end, but it was mostly those 5 guys.

Those 5 are the best 5. They provide so much more spacing and offensive firepower.

I agree offensively BUT with a 5'9" and 6'2" guard in at the same time the teams who really shoot 3's well that are 6'4 and 6'5 are going to shine. You can't keep DJ away from the basket to guard the 3. I thought the Tigers were going to press more this year with all the depth at guard. Don't see a lot of trapping on the ball handler. With small guards Tigers just can't put them up front guarding lights out shooters. That's what happened against Ga. Number 10 and No. 20 drilled the Tigers. I think Baugh is still the best starter and Tigers need the offense Tyler brings off the bench. The rest is spot on.

I have no issue with Baugh starting, just IMO the best 5 are the guys I listed and you need to start the best 5.

Defense just isn't an issue with this team. I'll sacrifice a little defense just to get a little more on the offensive end.

Boogie struggling as much as he is, is really hurting this team.

Our defense is not even close to as good as the numbers (and people) suggest. Most of those numbers come from playing some really bad teams that were missing wide open 3s one after another. We get mismatched on rotations constantly. Take way too many risks that leave open shots. Fortunately we havent had to pay for it too much, only when we play teams that arent bad.

Our defense is good. 16th in adjusted defense according to kenpom. It's as good as the number suggest.

We are second in the nation in blocks and 31st in steals.

Defense is the reason why, in games where we have struggled mightily on offense, we have won.

I see the stats but my eyes tell me we've been fortunate to play teams that have missed open looks. We swarm inside which is good

If this team is ever going to reach its full potential, DJ is gonna have to adopt the Keyshawn Johnson mentality. “Just Give Me the Damn Ball”.

Gonna have to guard the 3 better, but WSU only shot 32% from the field. Good teams are gonna make us pay from the perimeter.

RE: Starters and bench
I think our turnovers have been hurting our offense more than has been discussed. Turnovers per 40 minutes of play:

Precious: 3.64
DJ: 2.24
Lester: 3.4
Tyler: 3.4
ALo: 4.28
Boogie: 2.08
Baugh: 5.06
Maurice: 3.36
Dandridge: 3.48
Thomas: 2.44
Hardaway: 2.75

Our bigs, particularly DJ and Thomas, are not hurting us too bad. Our guards, particularly Baugh, are.

ALo is bringing a lot to each game, and he needs to take better care of the ball.

Boogie may have had some rough games, but he doesn't turn it over.

Considering their total production, I'd go with:
Precious
DJ
ALo
Boogie
Lester

I think we Q need to come out from the bench with set plays and minimize his role to dribble the ball. He turns the ball too much imo. Below are my starters:

1. ALo
2. Boogie
3. Baugh
4. DJ
5. Precious

Yep exactly. They were killing us by either having Dandridge out on the 3 line or ALo under the basket. Either way resulted in an easy 3 or an easy layup.

Gotta stop letting the opponent choose the matchups.

That switching has hurt in EVERY loss.... It’s the reason Tix was on the pine @ Oregon and never got into a rhythm.... Surely this has to be seen by the staff that this puts the team at a severe disadvantage defensively.... Finally, it looks as though the change was made v USF the last 10 minutes of the game, Precious was the rim defender (as opposed to switching and drifting out on the perimeter) USF never scored in the paint again 03-banghead
