I would think tonight is one of the strongest chances of a conference loss all season. So I would not make too much of it if we did lose. This is one of the most likely games we will lose.
If we win it will be one of the best wins of the season.

Agreed...
Win or lose, this will tell us a lot about this team.
Witchita State is close to the best team we will play all year (Oregon likely the best).
They are better than NC. State, UT and obviously Ole Miss.
If we go in there and get run off the court (Highly unlikely) then it may be cause for concern. If we win we are playing for a pod close to home again.

Welp...here’s an idea. After today we will have more data to build on.
Shrug...some fans like to let their young player/teams develop through almost a whole season.
...before they make permanent decisions. Improvement is always in the air with this Penny team.

RE: Memphis Could Be a Bubble Team???
After losing to Georgia and getting smoked tonight, I'm not sure that this team is good enough to be a bubble team. This looks more like an NIT team.

No
We were not expected to win at Wichita St. Its the type of loss a young team needs to help them grow and develop.

This year's crop of teams are so crap who knows what all the metrics look like at the end. We are certainly one of the best 30 at-larges though

A 9 point loss is not getting run off the court.
But Penny cannot wait for things to break to make changes...Adjustments can be made when you are winning.

It may have ended as a 9 point game, but at no point did we look like we belonged on that court.

I hope we are a bubble team. Anyone saying "it was just a 9 point loss," didn't watch the game.
We got run off the floor.

Not sure about that. 6 points with the ball and 2-3 minutes to go, I felt like we had a chance. Then, 2 straight turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds on successive possessions sealed the deal.
You are right, though. Wichita was better than us last night. They out-worked us, and followed their game plan better than we did last night. Let's see what we learn from this loss, and let's see how the game goes when Wichita come to Memphis.

Agree with your assessment. Turnovers and rebounding were killers like they have been at times all season. Once the kids understand valuing possessions, we'll see a dramatic improvement. They got down big and clawed their way back into the game. The turnovers at the end killed us. I don't see us losing too many more games when we get over this flu bug. Hard to play when you have two starters who are sick and not productive as a result.

There was a point we were down 3 and we made a steal and had Tyler (I think) driving for a layup. He got fouled, but they inexplicably called a charge on Tyler. That would have cut it to a 1-point game. Instead, they go down and hit a 3 and it becomes a 6 point game. One of the momentum turners.
There were others. Wichita offensive rebounding on missed FT's. Mostly bad luck for us. They got 2-3 on one possession that led to about 3 points.
Good shooters (not talking about Lance or Isaiah) missing wide open 3's. DJ and Damian still rebounding from illness.
Yeah, we were bad to start each half. But we still battled and there were opportunities to make it tight.
I am choosing to think we will be fine. Time to rattle off an 8-game win streak.

Yup if we would have won that game, I would have said we stole it. But if they play lights out late Feb and into March, no one will give a damn about this game.
