RE: Memphis Could Be a Bubble Team???
It's conceivable we could finish with 7-8 losses and be a bubble team. I don't think it's the most likely scenario, but it's not crazy.

The BPI, ESPN's ridiculous propietary ranking thing, predicts us to finish 9-7 to finish the season? Uh, ok, sure.

I think there is a strong possibility we drop 3-4 in conference so if we snooze on some of the others I could see possibly dropping 7. We may not be ass good as we think we are. I hope I'm proven to be full off caca.

RE: Memphis Could Be a Bubble Team???
Every team in the country, should they lose a bunch of games, could be a bubble team
Narrow win over Tulane then home loss has created quite a frenzy for a 12-2 team, but yes if our kids go from 12-2 to 12-5 (which would be 12-1 to 12-5), a possibility with a road game at Wichita, road game at USF and then home game with Cincy, we are squarely on the bubble.
And we would be facing a road trip to Tulsa then SMU
With that, this stretch here, 4 road games sandwiching a home game with Cincy, affords a remarkably young team even more chances to grow, and getting 3-5 wins in this period would be great, even if panic sets in over any loss

Been saying this all along. Conference play is going to be a real grind. 3-4 tough home games & virtually all road games are potential losses for this young team if they can't find some consistently reliable offense & hit FTs. They are also ALL probable wins except for 3-4 games which are toss ups - that's why this entire conference schedule is a real grind with a lot of potential losses.

If this team loses another 7 games thru conf play, then Penny would have lost the team. ESPN thinks that the team will be barely above 500 for the remainder of the season? That would be a disaster for the team, and would just add fuel to the recruiters out there that try to use the "Penny isn't a good enough coach for high level players". I think there is no way barring some injuries to key players, that this team loses 7 more games during conf play.

Lots of parity nationwide this year. No truly dominant teams this year. Another reason the Wiseman loss is so unfortunate.
However, I hear a lot of talk about how the AAC is down this year. We are probably a year or two away from being "dominant" like the Calipari teams. However, barring unusual injuries, or a total collapse, I just don't see us going 10-7 the rest of the way out. 5 losses maybe, but not 7.

AAC gets no love from the polls. That doesn't help.

UT is our best win so far and they are not doing us any favors with their losses.
Tonight's game against Wichita State is critical.

I'd say NC State is our best win. 44 KenPom 49 NET
While UT is 48 KenPom and 68 NET.
I understand though why UT is viewed as the best win to date.

It's important for seeding, but I don't think it's critical. I'm expecting a loss tonight and then for us to go on a run.

They do, but again when you watch this team right now it's not one where you say yeah they will be able to handle their conference slate.
This team has a ton of potential, but it has a ways to go to get there. Though that was expected considering how young they are.
So being a potential bubble team isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Now I don't think that will be the case.

Pollsters were just waiting on that first loss post-Wiseman. They are choosing to ignore the fact that with DJ we very likely win the game. GP admitted as much. If DJ is well enough to go just the last 5 minutes of the game, we probably win and we retain our ranking - even move up a spot.
They were all just lying in the weeds and waiting...

Weeds are too good for their asses. They hang out in poopinfested swamps
Hey. Chin-up, Tigers! Whether they rank us high low or not at all, it’s too early to give them clicks.

We are NOT going to lose 7 conference games, that is absurd.
