Lots of situational ball. Tricia's team is young and not super talented but they play hard and are very well coached. The in game coaching is amazing. Men!?!? Far different.

While true, the number of missed layups and turnovers still separates the men and women game greatly...

Yeah but a 5'8 girl with a 12 inch vert ends up 2 feet from the rim at letgo, while men are above the rim.

Not unlike soccer, women play more of a skilled game while men rely on physical dominance.

At some levels it may be hard to watch but for good MAC women, a borderline multi bid league??? Awesome. Toledo would win a handful of leagues. In the MAC? Barely a home game in the first round!

Fair + Onwuka are averaging 41 points per game combined. Today they had 31. Given the way UT defense has played much of the year, that's pretty impressive.

Another stat ... Lockett and Wiard both played 30 minutes. That's impressive for the freshmen to play so much and so well against a really good UB team.

That was surprising. I like seeing Wiard and Santucci on the court together. I wish Wiard would look for her shot a bit more aggressively. Rockets shot poorly from the line, 14-24. Really good defensive effort tonight.

Fair was not even that. Horrible shooting and really didn’t involve her teammates toward the end. Tried to be a one woman show. Lockett played some great D.

RE: WBB vs Buffalo Game Thread
This was a HUGE game for the Rockets. Did they ever respond after the loss to WMU. They are young, learning to play with each other at both ends and gaining confidence in their shooting and passing. But, IMO, it was their defense for most of the game that made the difference tonight. Even when they missed a lay up, they kept up the defensive play. And, as was pointed out earlier in this thread, the ongoing coaching is paying off. Just hope they work more on pull up jumpers. Of course I am still waiting on the return of the Naama Shafir reverse spin, drive and score!!

This freshmen class is going to be VERY fun to watch grow. I'm thinking this is the class that can get us back to the promised land of the NCAAT. Wiard is already showing game smarts above her years, which isnt surprising considering she's also an engineering student.

Very nice win. As I've said before, shooting is a real problem. And the free throws are inexcusable. 58% against UB. I think Black shooting better is a key for this team to win. 2 of 11 from the field last night and 36% for the season.

RE: WBB vs Buffalo Game Thread
Very nice win and as others have mentioned it seemed to be built on the defensive effort. Fair shot 4-18 and was often double teamed and seemed to not know what to do about it. The game was a perfect storm for Buffalo shooting 1-14 in the first quarter while Toledo which shoots 28% on 3s made 5 of 6 in the first quarter for a 17 point lead. That was the game. I still see Toledo as a poor shooting team and that will be an ongoing problem to overcome. Tonight Lockett was 5-14 and Black 2-11 and they took the most perimeter shots! And Barnes, who was 1-6 tonight in 15 minutes has got to shoot better or stop throwing it up whenever she gets her hands on the ball. For the season she is around 20% FG%. Not sure the young team thing is much different from others in the league. Buffalo started two freshmen tonight and they are 10-3 and don't have their leading scorer from last year (Summer Hemphill) playing as of yet. They will be an even better team when she returns.

Barnes has been puzzling. She's actually had some success driving to the basket, which I didn't expect. She was billed as a good outside shooter, but her shooting has been atrocious.

When we gave up an 8-0 run in the last 90 seconds of the first half, I thought we had lost the game. Rockets hung tough in the second thanks to taking pretty good care of the basketball and some hard work on the boards. Great game for Beacham.

Yes Beacham was the star in the second half. Wonder if she has earned her starting spot back.

RE: WBB vs Buffalo Game Thread
Interestingly enough, for all the poor shooting, the Rockets are presently 4th in the MAC in FG%. Worse in 3FG% but that has been trending up in the last several games - they were dead last for a while as I recall, now are 9th.

As for Barnes and Black, Cullop has always been one to tell her shooters to keep shooting with the expectation that eventually they will shoot themselves out of their slumps. In past seasons she has seemed more disappointed when players hesitate on taking open looks, then when they miss a lot. So, I doubt she has an issue with Barnes continuing to take open looks when she gets them.

One other interesting note from the presser, someone asked about Yani Curry. Cullop said she expects that Curry will be cleared to practice very soon, but they will not try to rush her recovery, so she will sit the whole season. Cullop did say she really likes how Curry plays. No one asked about Johnson though.
