$8 million.....04-jawdrop04-jawdrop04-jawdrop

By my quick math, this group has committed $12 million since they've formed ($3.5m initial gift + $8m golf facility + 0.5m for Ozone).

Question of the day Steve about the location!

Eagle Crest is in my opinion a splendid golf course. It competes well with both U-M courses and the public can play Eagle Crest while they cannot at the M courses. It is the highest cost available to the public course in Washtenaw County but deserves that price point due to its superior quality.

That being said, the EMU men's team has been using Travis Pointe CC in Saline as their practice course and no EMU men's events are played are played at either course, somewhat baffling to say the least. Based on that, I would not doubt that the facility will be built on West Campus where space is abundant. Just my take.

Ozone House is being built on Huron. It's on the river side of the road just west of Superior Rd.

Thanks for the share Steve! You do a fabulous job following EMU on Mlive.

The Prez certainly drew a line in the sand with regards to future athletic buildings. If we are going to replace the bubble with a brick and mortar facility, it will apparently have to be 100% funded with donations.

I'm not sure they bailed, but rather 'revised and extended' their commitment.

RE: EMU gets $ for golf facility
The guy leading the previous group "Power to Change" is a part of GameAbove, but not necessarily the guy in charge. There are people on the Board that have made serious gifts to EMU and followed through: TJ Lang, Charlie Batch, George Gervin, Jack Brusewitz, etc.

I would take these pledges much more seriously. Some of the money for their other gifts may have been already transferred to EMU.

Game Above just donated $1 million to the SAPC: https://today.emich.edu/story/story/11233

That brings their total to $13 million donated to EMU, if my math is correct.

Excellent.

As I suggested in other posts, this facility was financed through a bond issue of the university for it, Rec/IM, and academic buildings.

As such it is like a mortgage and the debt service is paid off over time just like a house. Few people buy houses or cars cash.

It ain't necessary for donors to plop down say 12M in a year or two.

I have NO IDEA what promises GameAbove made, but if they pledged say 500k per year for say 10 - 15 years that would pay the share of remaining monies to be raised by donations for the SAPC (hope my numbers are reasonably accurate).

Freep: "Eastern Michigan to get $500k a year to draw students to science, math"

Game Above stepped up again. Plus, they worked collaboratively with Reggie Jackson's foundation for this gift to EMU. Yes, "Mr. October" Reggie Jackson.

Excellent. One way to get more students into science, math, etc. is to provide scholarships and other tutorial type experiences.
