Very sad news. I was at Scott Stadium and witnessed his 100 yard kickoff return against the Cavaliers which I think is still a W&M record.

RE: Rest In Peace, John Gerdelman
We have lost one of our own who, along with his wife and daughter, provided incalculable support and affection to our alma mater.

A life well-lived.

Read a poem recently, the last line was: so when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right here, in your heart.

Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, let perpetual light shine upon him, may he Rest In Peace.

ALS is such an awful disease in a sea of awful diseases. The Tribe lost a great one.

RE: Rest In Peace, John Gerdelman
I started off as a chemistry major (had enough of 7 hour labs after Organic, and escaped before P-Chem), and remember how unique it was to see a football starter roaming those labs, especially during that era. Only at W&M.

ALS came up and took him far too quick. RIP, John. Condolences and best wishes to his wife and family.

Thanks for sharing the poem line, NJ alum. That was a worthy line to remember.

They had a wonderful obit for John in the RTD.

What a class act. W&M has lost so much. Feel so much for his family who have to feel such a loss.
