Texas and the B12 probably will be a better fit for him than the ACC. He relied on some underrated gems while in Memphis. Recruiting similar at VT. That won't cut it in the ACC. Another mediocre year and I wouldn't be surprised to see him let go.

CBS already putting Heupel, Dykes and Fickell on their list

Look, I'm not saying that Fickell's never going to leave but if he does, with his B1G/O$U pedigree it would be some place far better than lowly B12 Baylor.
Baylor is where Temple level coaches go.
If Fickell gets what Rhule made, he is gone to Waco.
I would be much more worried about your guy. Fickell knows that he cannot recruit to Baylor with his connections. It would be professional suicide. Fickel did not leave for WVU or Louisville. I think the job has to be in the Big Ten or Notre Dame.
Sounds like you don’t think much of Fickell since Rhule had been to Texas like 5 times before taking the Baylor job and ended up doing a good job there.

Locally here (NYC), word is that the Giants really were only interested in McCarthy and Rhule but wanted to interview several candidates and got beat out by Dallas (McCarthy), and Carolina (Rhule) by sticking to that process.
The Giants had an opportunity to mach the Rhule offer but decided against it.

LoL. He isn't going to Baylor. It's nothing against Baylor. It just isn't in Ohio or close to it. He's a different type of coach. If he's good enough he'll move up one more time, and that will be his final move.
I mean, that’s what I thought about Rhule going there - I thought it was a horrible pairing.
But I’ll give Baylor their due: they get a $6M payout from the Panthers, have a CFP possible team coming back, have beautiful facilities, and play a very manageable schedule. They will pay out the teeth for the right coach and Texas is a no state income tax state - I imagine every coach in the AAC would go if given the chance.

Will UCF’s $10 million buyout be enough to keep Baylor away from Josh Heupel? | Commentary
Bianchi is a troll that doesn't have any new information. But I don't think his speculation is that off base.
Heup and Rhoades were at Mizzou together.
Heup has 8 years of coaching experience in the Big12.
UCF fans are mad about the offense but it's still one of the top in the nation.
I don't feel like Heup has any delusion of being the next OU coach.
I assumed we would get at least another year from Heup but I'm not surprised if he leaves.

Just watched Rhule's introductory press conference. Man, that guy can give a speech. I'm sold.

I know right? How's the dream job working out in Blacksburg?
I've always said it is borderline impossible to take over for a legend. Not only that, but a legend who built the program from scratch, Ala, Beamer Ball. The only such case I've seen this actually be successful, was Jimbo Fisher taking over for Bobby Bowden at FSU.

Good for Heupal if he goes. The only thing that I see will happen going from a Ruehle type of defense going to a team with a hurry up type of offence that was played at UCF, it will take a few years. Or it will just blend in, middle of the pack.

But Fickle will be a B12 coach when Cincinnati gets added, right?
FIFY: But Fickle would be a "lowly" B12 coach IF Cincinnati ever gets added, right?
No. The "lowly" part only applies to the Temples and Baylors of the world.
UC will never get added to the current B12 because Oklahoma and Texas will never share their conference penthouse with anyone else... which they would obviously have to do with us.

Fick is a different guy. That's a good and a bad thing. I think guys chasing bigger and better can be a good motivator. His wife said they aren't moving all around this country. So far it looks like that holds true. From that I've read, he doesn't even have an agent right now.
I'm not one of the guys who thinks the world ends, if he leaves. I just know it won't be for Baylor. The MSU job next year will be the big test.
