The amount of unforced errors that Morgan makes is concerning. The ball hit him in the chest on a fast break and he just stood there and looked at it while the Ohio defender picked it up. Never seen anything like that.

Too little too late with the comeback, and with playing Shamar Dillard. Murphy should walk home.

Toure took 1 shot in the 2nd half.......remind you of anything? Dillard should play a lot more! This is an embarrassing loss! 0-2 in the MAC.......

Nice effort to come back but same script as Akron game over 20 turnovers and opponent splashes 3s all over the place
Time to start Dillard?

Very true.

As you know, when it was built the dream was to bring in big name teams like UofM, MSU, etc. and hope to draw say 6 or 7K. The dedication vs. UofM had a very large crowd. EMU home record.

Then the team went into the tank (1998) and games started to be feed on the web and attendance crashed. (as I posted elsewhere, who would drive 30 miles each way in MI winter for a midweek game which is free on the Internet? Some, yes. Thousands, no).

That said, the Convo is a great venue for things other than basketball games.

I watched a game from BG and thought how beautiful. Perfect basketball arena BUT perfect for graduations, concerts, robotics, etc. etc.???

As discussed elsewhere, Lincoln H.S. will draw big crowds to the Convo. They use the upper bowl seating. And, of course, the crowd is mostly local.

I remember when the Detroit WNBA team played some playoff games here.

I do not agree, Steve. The convo is a top notch basketball arena. Fans will come if and when we can win MAC games at a 0.66 clip or play an exciting brand of basketball.

Yes. Start Montero and Morgan at guard, if you aren’t starting James or Barnes. I’m assuming Chris James was hurt or something, because there is zero excuse for him to not have played tonight.

Listened to the postgame... Chad must have had plans in Athens after the game because it was short and sweet.

Lots of credit to Ohio for defending their home court. Were a group new to the MAC and it’s hard to win on the road. We turned the ball over too much. Like our guys effort but there’s was better.... basically the typical Murphy coach speak. Chad didnt ask about James or potentially playing Dillard more unfortunately.

(Good news is Chad will be at the M.A.C. Center with the women tomorrow night, so no having to listen to their women’s broadcast, which was awful last year.)

Too big for MAC hoops.

As a basketball venue say 6,200 seats would be fine.

Wish we had half of the upper seating.

I agree, Steve. Or just one large level of seats, like the Stroh Center at BG. I think that’s the perfect MAC arena in terms of dimensions, save for the bleachers by the one basket. Even if you only have 2-3k people there, you can feel an atmosphere.

The Convo is a great arena, and is obviously used for more than hoops, but will never be the raucous atmosphere that we want it to be.

Thanks.

What we saw in the 90s, with BSU, EMU, NIU, etc. was building larger arena to hold marque games.

Well, television came and B1G teams decided NOT to come, and we have what we have arena built for a day gone by.

In a sense, it is almost like what we see in MLB where new stadiums are downsized. Stadiums which held say 50 - 60K were replaced by stadiums 40K+.

But, in the case of say Ypsi Lincoln, there is no TV, so if someone wants to watch the game, do like people have done for decades: start your car and drive on over...

Correct Steve. Here's the mistake that EMU made. The Convo is a great venue. Awesome for graduations, concerts, etc. What should have been done is that they keep Bowen as the primary basketball venue and then have some games at the Convo. Think of St. John's. They play the majority of their games in the cozy Carnesecca Arena, (5,602) right on campus in Queens and they also have MSQ for big games. What really would set Eastern apart from the other MAC schools is if they had use of the old, historic barn that is Bowen Fieldhouse. Why do you think that Duke plays in Cameron when they easily could be playing their games in a huge new arena? It is not too late, my hope is that in the future, EMU refurbishes Bowen and makes it suitable for basketball again and upgrade the indoor track, make it first class and return it the raucous, magical arena it once was.

Yep. We and a lot of other MAC schools got sucked into dreaming of the Wisconsins, Indianas, Michigans, etc. visiting.

(I believe IU played a game in Muncie.). We had UofM for dedication. The hope was that a team like Wisconsin could draw 5K at Bowen my draw 7 or 8K at the Convo with suites, etc.

One thing I like about Dillards game is his ability to drive and draw the foul

He’s slithery. Especially against a zone, when you can put him in the high post and let him create. Plus, he seems to hit his free throws more often than not.

He has the highest ceiling on the entire team on both ends. Has Tim Bond potential on defense with his length and quickness, with a decent looking shot on offense. It blows my mind that he doesn’t play more. He should be a lock for at least 10-15 minutes a night, if not more.

The problem is his defense. He has the athletic ability but hasn't grasped the concepts of Murphy's zone... and we know how Coach Murphy works... If a kid can't play the zone he can't play.

Which makes Binelli's minutes beyond comprehension... He might know how to play the zone, but his feet don't move quick enough to actually play it.

I’ve often wondered how Binelli would look in the middle of the zone. Yesterday would’ve been a good opportunity to get a look, since Ohio wasn’t the biggest team. He has quick hands and could protect passing lanes without needing the foot speed necessary to play the wing.

Not something I’d try for too long, but I think he could spell Toure for 5 minutes or so without it being detrimental.

Well, assuming we win one MAC Tournament game (which is not a given), Murphy needs to go 9-7 from here on out to get to 20 wins. Or 10-6 if we don't win a tourney game.

I find that unlikely. No 20 win auto-extension this season, meaning next year will be his last year on the contract.

Agreed. Especially with an undersized team like OU that was making a living on the mid-range shots...
