This morning sports page (last page), showed why the VP does not center again, on ODU. The article was about Godwin transferring to Hampton. Unless my eyes are fooling me, the picture they showed of Godwin is not him.

In the "Real" paper, they showed flipping Jason Wade as Godwin. Total screw up.

I really wish ODU was allowed to release any and all incidents he was involved in. I hate that when students transfer they can throw shade at a school and people believe that they were complete angels

I don't have a paper in front of me (I'm back in DC) but I believe one of the consequences of the Tribune takeover has been that a lot of the page-design function has been offloaded to another site (I think copy editing is still done in-house, but layoffs have reduced the desk to something like 20 percent of what it was just five years ago). Fewer eyes on the product + dispersement of the eyes you have left = more opportunity for the wrong photo to get put on the page and less opportunity for it to be pulled before the presses roll.

Correct. I do find it interesting that he chose the term "family atmosphere," when the current roster looks more "familial" after the most recent departures. I also took note that he chose to reference "all the schools who contacted me." From my sources, most of those were to feel out the length of his remaining eligibility. There was only one viable option available to him, and that's where he "chose" to go.

I get the pilotonline and the picture was definitely Wade and not Godwin early this morning. I had to laugh. They couldn’t have picked a better team player than Wade to put in that picture. They must have corrected it later.

They never fixed the online digital edition of the paper.

Just on Facebook and came across Ed Miller page. Said he was cleaning out his work desk yesterday. Guess he took the Pilot buyout that was announced this past week in the paper for folks who have worked their more then 8 years. Not exactly sure. He mentioned to a former reporter who asked if he still worked there, he said nah, I’ve come home. Anyone know? Will the Pilot even cover us anymore if that happened?

Honestly, at this point I don't know what happens down there. The buyouts (and presumably layoffs if not enough people take the buyout) were long expected after the hedge fund bought into Tribune, but still it's the latest in a series of deep cuts to the publication. I don't know what to expect next with regards to ODU sports coverage; I have to think somebody will cover them, but there's so few people left there that it's hard to imagine that it won't suffer quite a bit.

Best-case scenario: They have one of the ACC reporters handle both UVA and VT and put the other on ODU. Worst-case: They include ODU in the local colleges beat and while they get more than W&M, HU and NSU, they also get less than they would with a dedicated reporter.

Before long there will be no original stories in the paper, just AP reprints and letters to the editor. This business is dead. They should hust close shop, liquidate, and distribute whatever cash is left to the shareholders.
