No, W&M has not been better almost every year.

JJ's record against W&M is 2-5.

I'll stand by my statement.

I would go back and post what the rankings were for each team (Ken Pom for accuracy sake). But, it's no use if you believe 1 game means more than 30.

I love this board, where we argue about what statements like “better almost every season” means. I think you should post them. They mean something, but I think head to head should always be given more weight than rankings. Especially over several games. We won 2 out of 7 under Jones. To me that means they have been better than us.

Yes, head to head average is the leading indicator. Computer averages such as KenPom are nice for a baseline, but standard deviations are massive and there just isn't enough data even in an entire season to establish any kind of meaningful significance.

One year they hit a prayer of a half court shot to win. However, had the team hit their free throws it wouldn’t have come down to that

Yep. And those missed FTs and half court prayer cost us an NCAA appearance that year too.

Power ranking services are going to be skewed because ODU beats up on a terrible conference most years. KenPom saying ODU is better than W&M when they lost head-to-head just shows you how ridiculous it is as a comparative ranking system.

Kenpom takes into account everything. Strength of opponent and win/loss margin are factored into the rankings. I am not sure people actually know what Kenpom is.

And yes, we have been better than William & Mary. That makes the losses to them look a lot worse. I can't explain why we lose to them, other than the fact we get out-coached. They are a bad match up for us, and we can't seem to formulate a plan to be successful against them. That is very troubling.

RE: Men's basketball depth
so we lost Dickins and Godwin. Are we looking to replace them via the same avenue they left on?
