If it's too gimmicky like first version of XFL, it won't. Especially with the rules.
AFL made it, and USFL almost did (except for Trump) because they played Football like the NFL and had some recognizable "names."
USFL was down from 18 teams to 8.
When Trump came in the USFL was already on its way out. Trump brought money and Press. The Donald probably extended the life of the USFL by a season or two. In a last ditch effort the league filed
a $1.7 billion antitrust suit in Federal Court after the major networks refused to pick up the USFL's Fall season supposedly because of pressure from Pete Rozelle. NFL lead attorney, Frank Rothman said he needed a bad guy on the USFL side to cut away at the image of the big guy vs little guy. He chose Trump because of his brassiness, wealth, and media visibility. Finally, the NFL and all its teams were judged to be a monopoly. The judgement ended with a NFL cutting a check for $3.76 and picking up the USFL's legal fees of $5-6 million. Several of the jurors agreed to the monetary settlement because they somehow got the impression the Judge would increase the award which they believed should be between $200-300 million. In interviews, the confused jurors said they would have never agreed to the judgement if they had truly understood the outcome.
The USFL screwed up by trying to move to fall and go head to head with the NFL. The Panthers had to merge with Oakland because the Silverdome was occupied by the Leo’s. And several other franchises probably had the same issues of venue.
I was a big Panther fan. Attended games at the Silverdome. Enjoyed Hebert, AC, Corker, etc.
I was 8, I remember seeing the game at the Silverdome against the Pittsburgh Maulers, who had just drafted Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier. I had the satin Champagne and Maroon jacket. I even had the punching bobble head puppet, I may still have it. I saw one online here: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/m...-503551973

Watched a number of videos from the Championship season. Boy that was a lot of fun.
Might have to get a Jersey.

RE: The XFL
Looks like the XFL is planning to potentially recruit college freshman and sophomores... YIKES!
Have to bet the NCAA is collectively crapping a twinkie about right now.

Beavers and Keenoy starting for Dallas today. Beavers at LT, Keenoy at LG. Pretty cool to see them working side by side.

The Citadel to use XFL rules for its spring game. Good for the coach! Creating some fun and excitment and giving the program some press:

FYI
If you have not seen The Citadel in Charleston, SC, it is an impressive and amazing place.

Braverman has been released by the St. Louis Battlehawks. (March 4, 2020). I can live to be 100, and I'll never understand why he blew off his Senior year.

I'm betting that a) he got bad advice or b)he ignored good advice

Beavers had a rough day and got called several times for holding. It was kind of neat seeing the left side all WMU though.
